An independent memoir directed and produced by a former Alibaba insider, Crocodile in the Yangtze follows China’s first Internet entrepreneur and former English teacher, Jack Ma as he grows Alibaba from a small apartment into China’s first global Internet company, battling - and beating – eBay in China along the way. The film provides rare behind-the-scenes access to the inner workings of China’s largest e-commerce company. “Crocodile in the Yangtze is a must-see film for anyone who wants to truly understand Alibaba,” said Angela Lee, Professor of Marketing at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Since its sold-out World Premiere at the Sonoma International Film Festival, Crocodile in the Yangtze has traveled to 20 film festivals, garnering several awards including “Best Documentary” at the San Francisco United Film Festival and “Best Film on Entrepreneurship” at the Silicon Valley Film Festival. To date, the film has screened to audiences of students and entrepreneurs in more than 50 cities on six continents. Business Insider calls Crocodile in the Yangtze “Thrilling…Entertaining… Suspenseful…Incredible!”

“I made Crocodile in the Yangtze to inspire entrepreneurs and others with a dream, so that they could apply the lessons from Alibaba’s successes and mistakes to their own endeavors,” said Porter Erisman, a former Alibaba Group Vice-President and the film’s director. “I’m thrilled to finally make Crocodile in the Yangtze available to audiences worldwide.”

Exclusive Worldwide Release on Vimeo On Demand

The release marks the first time the film is available for purchase by the general public. Starting today, the film may either be purchased for US$9.95 or rented for US$4.95 on Vimeo On Demand’s groundbreaking platform.

“Vimeo On Demand is the natural home for Crocodile in the Yangtze,” said Erisman. “Just as Alibaba revolutionized the way physical products are sold online, Vimeo is revolutionizing the way video content is sold online. The future of film distribution is here – and it’s Vimeo On Demand.”

Crocodile in the Yangtze is a compelling doc that gives audiences a glimpse into the inspirational life of Jack Ma and the rise of Alibaba,” said Sam Toles, Vice President, Content Acquisition and Business Development, Vimeo. “We’re excited to work with Porter and support his worldwide release of the film.”

Five years ago development was seen as a dead-end career, now it’s anything but – with an explosion in mobile and IoT initiatives increasing the demand for skilled engineers. But apart from having a ready supply of great coders, what constitutes true ‘DevOps Royalty’? It’ll be the ability to craft resilient architectures, supportability, security everywhere across the software lifecycle. In his keynote at @DevOpsSummit at 20th Cloud Expo, Jeffrey Scheaffer, GM and SVP, Continuous Delivery Busi...
Managing mission-critical SAP systems and landscapes has never been easy. Add public cloud with its myriad of powerful cloud native services and this may not change any time soon. Public cloud offers exciting new possibilities for enterprise workloads. But to make use of these possibilities and capabilities, IT teams need to re-think everything they have done before. Otherwise, they will just end up using public cloud as a hosting platform for their workloads, aka known as “lift and shift.”
"MobiDev is a Ukraine-based software development company. We do mobile development, and we're specialists in that. We build IoT infrastructure products - when you have to integrate different devices, different systems and cloud you have to build an application to do that but we eliminate the need to build an application. You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
Cloud applications are seeing a deluge of requests to support the exploding advanced analytics market. “Open analytics” is the emerging strategy to deliver that data through an open data access layer, in the cloud, to be directly consumed by external analytics tools and popular programming languages. An increasing number of data engineers and data scientists use a variety of platforms and advanced analytics languages such as SAS, R, Python and Java, as well as frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark...
The current age of digital transformation means that IT organizations must adapt their toolset to cover all digital experiences, beyond just the end users’. Today’s businesses can no longer focus solely on the digital interactions they manage with employees or customers; they must now contend with non-traditional factors. Both SaaS vendors and SaaS buyers are going “all-in” to hyperscale IaaS platforms such as AWS, which is disrupting the SaaS value proposition. Why should the enterprise SaaS consumer pay for the SaaS service if their data is resident in adjacent AWS S3 buckets? If both SaaS sellers and buyers are using the same cloud tools, automation and pay-per-transaction model offered by IaaS platforms, then why not host the “shrink-wrapped” software in the customers’ cloud? Further, serverless computing, cl...
