The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) commends Google for releasing a comprehensive report on the state of the company’s workforce diversity. While the report reveals low representation by women and minorities, Google’s swift, transparent, and self-motivated decision to publicize its internal corporate challenge is a very positive first step.
“The USHCC applauds Google’s courageous candor in releasing this report. Unlike many other companies, Google’s ultimate decision to disclose this information was not due to external pressures, but rather motivated by a candid culture that sets high internal standards as a global brand and industry leader. Google understands that recruiting and developing employees who reflect the faces of their consumers and shareholders is not only the right thing to do, but it is also a good business practice,” said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. “Our organization stands firmly beside Google and CEO Larry Page as these developments unfold. Above all else, Google’s decision to publish this report demonstrates the company’s forthcoming commitment to establish a more effective diversity and inclusion recruitment program.”
Google currently employs approximately 50,000 people, and typically hires thousands of new workers every year.
“We commend Google’s leadership in openly accepting responsibility for these disparities, and more importantly, for proactively seeking to rectify the situation,” said USHCC Chairman Marc Rodriguez. “This report has the potential to inspire a national conversation on corporate diversity and inclusion. Beyond the internal changes Google plans for itself, these discoveries may drive other major U.S. companies to turn inward and examine the diversity within their own workforce. Leadership comes in many forms, and through this report, Google has demonstrated the rarest and most noble of them all – unbridled transparency in the face of challenge.”

As the world moves toward more DevOps and Microservices, application deployment to the cloud ought to become a lot simpler. The Microservices architecture, which is the basis of many new age distributed systems such as OpenStack, NetFlix and so on, is at the heart of Cloud Foundry - a complete developer-oriented Platform as a Service (PaaS) that is IaaS agnostic and supports vCloud, OpenStack and AWS.
