penveu®, an Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH) business, today announced its award-winning hand held device, is officially in production and will begin shipping Friday, May 30. The product launched to critical acclaim at DEMO Spring 2012, was a 2014 Honoree of the Consumer Electronics Show Innovations in Design and Engineering Award, and has captured the attention of the education technology market during its rigorous research and development phase.
“We have eagerly watched the development of penveu,” said Lynell Burmark, Ph.D. and CEO of educatebetter.org. “This is a product unlike any other currently on the market, and certainly provides a viable alternative to those districts looking for innovative technology solutions that can accommodate all the disparate devices found in the classroom. It's an especially timely tool for districts wanting to empower students making multimedia presentations as proof of learning under Common Core (and other assessment-accountability programs)!”
penveu is an interactive tool that radically evolves the interactive whiteboard (IWB) and display markets, by enhancing the functionality of already-installed projectors and large screen displays, without needing to replace them. It is designed with both educators and the corporate world in mind, with the goal of providing an innovative product whose technology helps create an engaging and interactive environment via an appliance that is pinpoint accurate, portable and easy to use right out of the box; with no needed calibration or additional software or driver downloads. The device is now available to the public at a fraction of the cost of the market alternatives.
“When we launched penveu, we set out to deliver a highly disruptive device,” said Yoram Solomon, Ph.D., vice president of corporate strategy and general manager of penveu. “We have dedicated our efforts to harness the power of a new technology such as embedded computer vision and create a tool that would positively impact the education and enterprise markets. After intense development, we have reached the point of commercial production and have shipped the first systems to customers. We are incredibly proud of this product, both developed and manufactured here in the U.S., symbolizing the innovative spirit of our company.”

Creating replica copies to tolerate a certain number of failures is easy, but very expensive at cloud-scale. Conventional RAID has lower overhead, but it is limited in the number of failures it can tolerate. And the management is like herding cats (overseeing capacity, rebuilds, migrations, and degraded performance).
