TTX Company Recognized as a CIO 100 Award Winner
|By Business Wire
|June 2, 2014 12:12 PM EDT
magazine today announced TTX
Company, one of the nation’s leading transportations logistics and
railcar providers, as a recipient of the 2014 CIO 100 Award. The 27th
annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that
exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in
information technology (IT).
"For 27 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of
technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson,
Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & Events. "Our 2014 winners are an
outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive
everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage."
“This award is a testament to the work we’ve done implementing
innovative technology like Actifio’s
copy data virtualization platform throughout our business,” said Bruce
Schinelli, CIO, TTX. “These technologies have helped us make dramatic
improvements in operating our business in recent years; enhancing our
systems to track, analyze and perform maintenance on our railcars as
well as other tasks, without causing disruptions to the services we
provide our customers and the industry. Being recognized as one of the
CIO 100 Award winners is a wonderful acknowledgement of that investment
and hard work.”
TTX implemented Actifio’s copy data virtualization platform in September
2013 to cut infrastructure costs by over a million dollars, to improve
the availability of their mission critical databases and to speed the
development of new capabilities. Since deploying Actifio, TTX has
eliminated multiple separate backup replication technologies while
providing faster analytics without impacting production systems. TTX has
saved on its storage capacity dedicated for non-production copies and is
well on its way to realize a 127 percent return on investment by the end
of year three.
“Nothing delights us more than helping our users successfully transform
their business to enable new, innovative, and cost effective IT
solutions for serving their own customers,” said Ash Ashutosh, Actifio’s
Founder and CEO. “We’re honored to play a role in TTX’s recent success
and congratulate the TTX team on winning this CIO 100 award. As a
longstanding partner with TTX, we’re excited to continue working with
the team to leverage the power of our virtualization platform to drive
business resiliency, agility and data mobility across their enterprise.”
About the CIO 100
The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a
three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application
form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a
team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique
practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the
judges' recommendations and voted on the final 100.
Complete coverage of the 2014 CIO 100 awards will be online at http://www.cio100.com/
on August 1, 2014 and in the August 1st issue of CIO magazine.
Executives from the winning companies will be recognized at the CIO 100
Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be held Tuesday evening, Aug. 19 at the
Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Things are changing so quickly in IoT that it would take a wizard to predict which ecosystem will gain the most traction. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Adam Justice, vice president and general manager of Grid Connect, will review what happens when smart devices don’t work togethe...

Building a cross-cloud operational model can be a daunting task. Per-cloud silos are not the answer, but neither is a fully generic abstraction plane that strips out capabilities unique to a particular provider. Deep learning has been very successful in social sciences and specially areas where there is a lot of data. Trading is another field that can be viewed as social science with a lot of data. DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm. In his Day 3 Keynote at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Brown, a Solutions Marketing Manager at Nutanix, will explore t...

Imagine having the ability to leverage all of your current technology and to be able to compose it into one resource pool. Now imagine, as your business grows, not having to deploy a complete new appliance to scale your infrastructure. Also imagine a true multi-cloud capability that allows live migration without any modification between cloud environments regardless of whether that cloud is your private cloud or your public AWS, Azure or Google instance. Now think of a world that is not locked i...

Most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall.
As with most new architectures, this dream takes a lot of work to become a reality. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost...
