OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/06/14 -- Poetry, an important symbol of freedom of expression, has always played a central role in Canada's rich literary tradition. The men and women dedicated to this art form have helped shape our country's identity, and they deserve our appreciation.
The Griffin Poetry Prizes, presented each year in two categories (Canadian and International), reward outstanding collections of poetry in the English language. This year's winners will each receive $65,000.
I am proud to congratulate Anne Carson, winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize in the Canadian category for pour Red Doc. I would also like to recognize the other finalists in this category: Sue Goyette, for Ocean, and Anne Michaels, for Correspondences. I also extend congratulations to Brenda Hillman, winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize in the International category, for Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire.
