Afilias, the registry for the new .BLUE top-level domain, today announced the adoption of premium domain www.oceans.blue as well as www.worldoceansday.blue by The Ocean Project, the lead organization behind World Oceans Day on June 8.
The Ocean Project currently uses the domains oceans.blue and worldoceansday.blue as redirects to its main site, employing these URLs to reaffirm its commitment to the conservation of the important blue water that connects us all.
Roland LaPlante, CMO of Afilias — the home of .BLUE — said, “Afilias is pleased to have the .BLUE domain play a part in raising awareness of World Oceans Day. The .BLUE domain lets water-oriented groups, businesses and individuals immediately communicate their connection to blue water right in their Internet address, making it easier for supporters and customers to find them.”

This potential may never be met as those data sets are tied to specific industry verticals and single markets, with no clear way to use IoT data and sensor analytics to fulfill the hype being given the IoT today.
