Research by Leading Analyst Firm Shows Cost Benefit of Commercial DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management Solutions

Infoblox Inc. (NYSE:BLOX), the network control company, today announced that a new report from Gartner, Inc., titled “Market Guide for DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management,” “estimates that usage of a commercial DDI solution can reduce opex (network operating expenses) by 50 percent or more, which can lead to savings of full-time equivalents (FTEs) in larger organizations.”

The report, written by Gartner analysts Andrew Lerner and Lawrence Orans, provides recommendations on deploying DDI and evaluates nine DDI vendors, including Infoblox.

A complimentary copy of the report, released on April 25, 2014, is available now at www.infoblox.com/gartner.

“DDI solutions improve overall IT infrastructure availability while reducing operational expenditure,” the report says. “These solutions specifically address the needs of server, network and other infrastructure and operations (I&O) personnel responsible for DNS, DHCP services and allocation of IP addresses within their organizations. I&O administrators use DDI products for the daily management of DNS and DHCP services, and to provide a structured workflow for basic network operations (for example, adding printers or servers, allocating IP ranges for new branches, etc.).

“Companies adopt DDI solutions when they are looking to step up from using rudimentary tools (i.e., spreadsheets) to manage IP addresses, and when they seek improved control and policies for managing network changes,” the report continues.

For a typical large global organization, Gartner estimates that:

  • “Manual DNS administration time can be reduced from two to 10 minutes to half a minute to five minutes per change.
  • “Manual DHCP administration time can be reduced from four to 15 minutes to half a minute to five minutes per change.
  • “Manual IP address management administration time can be reduced from 15 to 60 minutes to one to 20 minutes per change.”

“We are excited to have Gartner, one of the most credible voices in IT, validate the necessityin our viewof DNS, DHCP, and IP address management for running today’s increasingly complex networks,” said Scott Fulton, Executive Vice President of Products. “All network managers considering enterprise-grade DDI should read this report and pay careful attention to Gartner’s detailed analysis of each vendor in the market.”

In the world of DevOps there are ‘known good practices’ – aka ‘patterns’ – and ‘known bad practices’ – aka ‘anti-patterns.' Many of these patterns and anti-patterns have been developed from real world experience, especially by the early adopters of DevOps theory; but many are more feasible in theory than in practice, especially for more recent entrants to the DevOps scene. In this power panel at @DevOpsSummit at 18th Cloud Expo, moderated by DevOps Conference Chair Andi Mann, panelists will dis...
Up until last year, enterprises that were looking into cloud services usually undertook a long-term pilot with one of the large cloud providers, running test and dev workloads in the cloud. With cloud’s transition to mainstream adoption in 2015, and with enterprises migrating more and more workloads into the cloud and in between public and private environments, the single-provider approach must be revisited.
