Dais Analytic Achieves Industry-Changing Dehumidification Success

Dais Analytic Has Successfully Demonstrated a Refrigerant-Free Dehumidification Process That Doesn't Change the Air Temperature in a Joint Project Supported by the US Department of Energy and the US Navy

TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 06/09/14 -- Dais Analytic Corporation (OTCQB: DLYT), a nanotechnology materials and process company focused on commercializing its technology in the worldwide energy and water markets, announced it successfully achieved the technical goals of its second Department of Energy (DoE) Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) project on time and under budget.

Dais used its family of Aqualyte™ nanomaterials to construct and demonstrate an industry-changing dehumidifying unit that removes moisture from air without significantly changing the temperature of the air being processed.

This novel dehumidification process is enabled by Aqualyte™ materials and their ability to efficiently move water molecules while restricting other air molecules, and is a key part of Dais' new NanoAir™ line of Heating, Ventilating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) products. The US Department of Energy calculates that HVACR equipment accounts for 27% of the primary energy consumed in the US(1). Projected savings from NanoAir™ will reduce that energy usage, providing a significant economic and environmental impact.

There are three notable impacts of NanoAir™ dehumidification:

  • Most forms of dehumidification use man-made refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs, or HFCs) that are potent greenhouse gases linked to climate change. Aqualyte™ membranes allow direct removal of humidity without refrigerants.

  • Membrane dehumidification removes moisture from the air with little or no change in air temperature, decoupling humidity control from temperature control. Traditional dehumidification cools air until it is unable to hold its moisture, making it impossible to dehumidify the air without reducing its temperature.

  • Independent humidity control allows membrane dehumidification to be combined with various cooling technologies to create innovative new systems that reduce energy consumption. For instance, inexpensive evaporative cooling that is traditionally limited to desert climates can be used in humid environments once the air has been dehumidified. Membrane dehumidification works with current air conditioners to control temperature and humidity independently for more comfortable living environments at lower energy costs. The lower energy usage reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions which are damaging to the environment and our health.
