Prescriptive Personalization Results in 20 Fold Increase Over Traditional Sales Conversion

Leading online furniture retailer SmartFurniture.com announced today at the commencement of IRCE, the largest internet retailing show, that its proprietary prescriptive personalization application SmartProfile has increased conversion rates by a factor of more than 20x in 2014. While also boosting revenue per visit more than 22x, the innovative app instantly customizes how shoppers experience the site, presenting items matched to specific budgets, space constraints, and style preferences using a methodology the company calls “prescriptive personalization.”

SmartProfile users also spent 7x more time on SmartFurniture.com than non-profile visitors, visited five times as many pages, and showed an 84 percent improvement on exit rates. “We are thrilled with the results of SmartProfile because it demonstrates that we are really helping customers find the right products for them. Our focus has been to create the best customer experience possible and these metrics are a testament to how powerful truly personalized and curated experiences are,” said T. J. Gentle, President and CEO of SmartFurniture.com.

SmartProfile digitally replicates the experience of being assisted by expert sales staff at brick and mortar retailers. After customers take a short online quiz, the SmartProfile algorithm automatically personalizes the entire web site based on thousands of product attributes and variables quantified by Smart Furniture’s team of furniture experts. The result is a highly engaging shopping experience tailored individually for each customer.

“The time retailers have to pique the interest of customers is shrinking every day, so presenting what most appeals to them as soon as possible has tremendous value in this ultra-competitive environment,” stated Gil Cayabyab, Vice-President of Marketing. “Our aim is to make every customer’s shopping experience with us simple, fun and rewarding, and SmartProfile is a big step in that direction,” added Cayabyab.

The merits of crowd-sourced and personalized web experiences have been proven by successful e-tailers such as Amazon and Netflix through their offering of suggestions generated by user recommendations and click-paths, but prescriptive personalization based on expert product analysis that considers human intuition and emotion is still emerging. “The results we are seeing are dramatic, yet we are only scratching the surface of what this technology can do,” concluded Cayabyab.
