AssureStart, the Seattle-based technology startup that sells small business insurance coverage on the Internet, has been named a finalist for the 2014 Technology Innovation Award.
Presented by the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (IASA), in partnership with Ward Group, the Technology Innovation Award recognizes an insurance company that has successfully implemented technology to improve operational efficiency, increase revenue or drive the strategic direction of the business.
As one of three finalists, AssureStart will present its case study at the IASA Executive EDGE Conference on Sept. 22, 2014 in Chicago. A peer judging process will determine the winner.
Technology is at the heart of AssureStart’s business model – to deliver a streamlined and paperless insurance-buying experience to small businesses. The company’s all-new, proprietary technology platform integrates online sales, policy administration, billing, claims, service, finance/general ledger, product rates, forms and filings.
By visiting assurestart.com, small businesses can get coverage recommendations and a rate quote, purchase a business owner’s policy and download the policy and certificate of insurance – all in less than 10 minutes. (A business owner’s policy combines both general liability and business property coverage.) With AssureStart’s efficient direct sales process, the company is able to pass along savings in the form of lower rates.
The company formed in February 2013 and launched service in its first state nine months later in November 2013. AssureStart currently sells business owner’s policies in seven states. It plans to expand to additional states covering 70 percent of the U.S. by the end of 2014, with a national footprint complete by mid-2015.
Based in Seattle, AssureStart is dedicated to serving the insurance needs of small businesses with one to 30 employees. The company sells business owner’s policies (general liability and business property insurance coverage) direct to small businesses via its website, www.assurestart.com. The website features a proprietary, easy-to-use recommendation engine and the ability to bind coverage online and download a certificate of insurance at the point of sale. AssureStart serves as the managing general agent for policies underwritten by Midvale Indemnity Company, an affiliate of Madison, Wis.-based American Family Insurance.
