Kaltura Launches eCDN Plus for Optimized Video Delivery Behind the Firewall

Provides Live and On Demand Video Delivery Behind the Firewall That Is Scalable, Secure, and API-Based With No Additional Investment in Network Capacity

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - June 13, 2014) - Kaltura, the leading video software platform (www.kaltura.com), today announced the launch of Kaltura eCDN Plus -- an out-of-the-box solution for efficient, secure, scalable & high quality delivery of both live and on-demand video content behind the firewall. The solution maximizes the viewing experience by minimizing the traffic burden placed upon the organization's WAN and reducing latency.

Kaltura eCDN Plus will be presented at Kaltura Connect 2014 - The Video Experience Conference, which will take place in New York City on June 16-18.

Kaltura eCDN Plus is the newest addition to Kaltura's wide range of deployment options -- including on-premise, hybrid, and full SaaS deployment. It is based on the robust Kaltura API and leverages streaming technology by Wowza Media Systems as well. Kaltura eCDN Plus is tightly integrated with Kaltura's market-leading video products, such as the company's CorporateTube video portal, and integrations with social business platforms (SharePoint, IBM Connections, and Jive), as well as Kaltura's products for the education market (including integrations with Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle, Desire2Learn, and Canvas) providing a seamless user experience, and centralized management and control.

With the addition of Kaltura's eCDN Plus solution, customers now have full flexibility to deliver VOD and live video both inside and outside the organization in the most cost-effective, secure and streamlined fashion. Kaltura eCDN Plus now provides peace of mind to the IT department by decreasing the load on the network, as well as providing a smooth streaming experience to all users, in all locations. Enterprises can leverage Kaltura's dual-delivery capabilities to deliver content via eCDN internally and via public CDN externally. Kaltura eCDN Plus can easily scale, starting from a small deployment and growing to an unlimited capacity (unlimited users and unlimited number of locations) as video consumption needs expand.

"Kaltura eCDN Plus helps CIOs and their IT departments support the growing consumption of media across the enterprise, while providing the highest quality streaming for live and VOD content, and at the same time, minimizing the impact on the WAN network and the associated costs," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Co-founder, Chairman and CEO. "With Kaltura, you benefit from a centralized video management and delivery platform that provides the optimal video experience to every user, on every device, in the most effective way. We will be leveraging Kaltura eCDN Plus for our enhanced webcasting capabilities as well, which will be announced later this year."

How does Kaltura eCDN Plus work?
Kaltura eCDN Plus supports both multicast and unicast for a variety of network configurations and settings. Kaltura Streaming Servers, leveraging Wowza Media Systems streaming technology, are placed in the enterprise's data-center/s, and facilitate video delivery inside the organization. The Kaltura Edge Servers connected to the Streaming Servers, are located in remote offices or in close proximity to viewers' locations across the enterprise, and deliver the content to the end-users. This significantly reduces bandwidth overload on the WAN, and allows for more effective delivery of 'heavy' video content to the end users.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...

The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? Certainly the fog layer of IoT requires special insights about data ontology, security and transactional integrity. But the developmental challenges are the same: People, Process and Platform. Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.
The next XaaS is CICDaaS. Why? Because CICD saves developers a huge amount of time. CD is an especially great option for projects that require multiple and frequent contributions to be integrated. But… securing CICD best practices is an emerging, essential, yet little understood practice for DevOps teams and their Cloud Service Providers. The only way to get CICD to work in a highly secure environment takes collaboration, patience and persistence. Building CICD in the cloud requires rigorous ar...

To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their operations with a data-first application development approach. Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Now that design CAD teams are geographically distributed, centralizing their work is key. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
