OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/13/14 -- Canada Revenue Agency
With the fast-approaching deadline for self-employed individuals to file by midnight on Monday, June 16, 2014, the Minister of National Revenue, the Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. today issued the following statement:
"For those Canadians who are self-employed, this year's filing deadline is midnight on Monday, June 16, 2014. Filing electronically is by far the easiest option and I invite you to join the growing number of Canadians who are making use of the broad range of e-services we now offer. Through My Business Account, you have an array of tax filing possibilities at your fingertips. For example, you can manage your accounts online, including the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax, payroll, corporation income taxes, excise taxes, and excise duties. My Business Account gives business owners the power and tools to manage their own tax affairs with less red tape-that means less cost, time, and effort to comply with Canada's tax laws, and more time to spend on your business.
Our modern service delivery also includes the My Account and Represent a Client online services that allow Canadians and those who represent them to interact electronically with us efficiently and securely, for a multitude of services. Our online services are safe and secure -- in fact, Canadians have resoundingly demonstrated they agree- 80% successfully filed online this year. That's almost 21 million individual income tax and benefit returns filed electronically!
We continue to make improvements. For individual taxpayers on My Account, we have added new services such as pre-authorized debit and electronic submission of documents. For businesses on My Business Account, we have introduced an online enquiries service and an online mail service. Representatives are also able to benefit from these new services through Represent a Client.
For a step-by-step guide on how to register for these online services, go to our newly-launched infographic questionnaire designed for just that purpose. In the registration process, you will also discover the convenient Sign-In Partner option, available for many financial institutions, which saves you time by using your existing online banking ID and password to access CRA online services.
The Government of Canada is focused on making managing your taxes as easy as possible, to increase compliance, and to make sure we continue to serve Canadians effectively, fairly, and with integrity.
I encourage all Canadians to register for the online service that meets their needs."
