Major updates to the platform include:
- Support for Intel x86: Integrating with the increasingly popular mobile chipset microprocessor enables developers to add enterprise-grade video and voice capability to the next generation of mobile devices.
- Access to Video Driver: OpenTok's iOS and Android SDKs now give developers direct access to the video stream, giving them the ability to do anything from the basic addition of graphics, to implementing 'see what I see' applications.
- The release of Archiving API to production.
- The release of the iOS 2.2 and Android 2.2 SDKs to production.
Support for x86 is part of the enhanced OpenTok Android SDK, ensuring seamless usability and quality on the upcoming generation of devices that run on Intel's x86 chipset architecture. By prioritizing high quality performance on x86, OpenTok will support more endpoints in preparation for the continued rapid expansion of mobile device consumption in the global market.
The Video Driver capability, available in the OpenTok iOS and OpenTok Android 2.2 SDKs, gives developers the ability to completely customize both the input and output of video to the client SDK. That means any kind of content can be inserted either in addition to, or in place of, the conversation's video stream without interrupting the OpenTok session. Developers can add HD streaming from a local network, briefly pause the video and snap a photo, add filter effects, and more.
