The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has selected the CEA Foundation as a 2014 “Power of A” Gold Award winner. The “Power of A” Awards recognize a select number of organizations annually that distinguish themselves with innovative, effective and broad-reaching programs and activities that positively impact America and the world. The CEA Foundation, which is affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, is being recognized for its work supporting innovative nonprofits linking seniors and people with disabilities with technology that enhances their lives.
“We wish to thank ASAE for recognizing the work of the CEA Foundation. In the two years since we established the foundation, we are pleased to be making a positive impact on the lives of seniors and people with disabilities,” said John Shalam, chairman and founder of VOXX International Corporation and chairman of the CEA Foundation. “We congratulate our fellow winners and are proud to serve as an example of the important contributions that associations and technological innovation can have in our communities.”
The CEA Foundation was recognized for its power to enrich lives through its many initiatives, including its support of the following organizations:
- The expansion of the Selfhelp Community Services Virtual Senior Center program which enables homebound seniors to participate in classes and connect with friends and family around the world.
- The creation of the Senior Planet Exploration Center by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) the first technology themed center for older adults that teaches technology through courses, workshops and social events.
- The Hearing Loss Association of America’s (HLAA) program that trained members on the use of consumer electronics such as smart phones and tablets to assist people with hearing loss, and magnified the effect of the training by having the participants spread this knowledge in their communities through HLAA chapters, VA clinics, retirement communities, universities and other locations.
- The Henry A. Grunwald Technology Center at the Lighthouse Guild, helping individuals that are blind or low-vision identify technologies to assist in their daily lives.
Additionally, the CEA Foundation has worked with and supported numerous other organizations working with seniors and people with disabilities.
As a “Power of A” Gold Award recipient, the CEA Foundation is automatically entered to win one of six ASAE Summit Awards which will be selected in July.

I'm a lonely sensor. I spend all day telling the world how I'm feeling, but none of the other sensors seem to care. I want to be connected. I want to build relationships with other sensors to be more useful for my human. I want my human to understand that when my friends next door are too hot for a while, I'll soon be flaming.
