CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/18/14 -- The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) this week celebrates 65 years serving Canada's drilling and service rig industry.
The Association's longevity distinguishes it as one of Canada's oldest upstream petroleum associations.
In 1949, the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin was a barely-explored resource, but a drilling industry was gaining a foothold on the Canadian prairie. Ten drilling contractors in that young industry saw an opportunity to ensure that as the Canadian oil and gas industry grew, it would also improve. They conceived of a meeting place where rig contractors set aside competitive differences to cooperate on common issues.
The resulting CAODC became a ready means of contact for government bodies and industry stakeholders and a place where rig contractors could create shared safety and training resources.
CAODC President, Mark Scholz, says, "An anniversary year is a good time to review accomplishments and milestones. When you're part of a community that's been around for 65 years, it makes one appreciate those organizations with a mandate to preserve these stories."
This month, CAODC updated its holdings at the Glenbow Archives in downtown Calgary. Items going to the archives include the original training videos from the 1980s when CAODC launched a Blowout Prevention Training standard for drillers, and photos of CAODC Safety Award winners from the 1960s and 1970s. CAODC is also forwarding 11 years' worth of its membership magazine, The OilDriller, and a series of annual reports.
Says Scholz, "CAODC's goal is to support operational excellence within our membership. We're grateful to the Glenbow for preserving this powerful story about Canada's rig industry."
65 years after inception, CAODC is the voice of 100% of Canada's drilling fleet and more than 98% of Canada's service rig fleet. It serves a membership of 44 drilling contractors (including 2 offshore contractors), 83 service rig contractors and 210 associate members.
Amazon and Google have built software-defined data centers (SDDCs) that deliver massively scalable services with great efficiency. Yet, building SDDCs has proven to be a near impossibility for ‘normal’ companies without hyper-scale resources. In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, David Cauthron, founder and chief executive officer of Nimboxx, will discuss the evolution of virtualization (hardware, application, memory, storage) and how commodity / open source hyper converged infrastructure (HCI) so...

With the Apple Watch making its way onto wrists all over the world, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a staple in the workplace. In fact, Forrester reported that 68 percent of technology and business decision-makers characterize wearables as a top priority for 2015. Recognizing their business value early on, FinancialForce.com was the first to bring ERP to wearables, helping streamline communication across front and back office functions. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Kevin Roberts...

Even though you are running an agile development process, that doesn’t necessarily mean that your performance testing is being conducted in a truly agile way. Saving performance testing for a “final sprint” before release still treats it like a waterfall development step, with all the cost and risk that comes with that. In this post, we will show you how to make load testing happen early and often by putting SLAs on the agile task board.
