GREENWOOD, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/14 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova), today announced $15,000 in funding for the Association francophone de la Vallee. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
This funding, provided under the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program, is for the project "Les services a l'enfance". It will enable the Association francophone de la Vallee to provide a variety of activities and services to young families and their children (aged 5 years and under) at the Point de Mire Community Centre in Greenwood. These activities meet a need in the community for French-language early childhood programming. Thanks to this project, children will be better prepared to enter the Francophone school system.
-- The Association francophone de la Vallee is a non-profit organization that works to promote French language and culture in the Annapolis Valley. -- The Association aims to ensure the long-term development of the Annapolis Valley's Francophone community in the socio-cultural, educational, economic, and community sectors. -- In addition to playing a key role in the region's Francophone community, the Association francophone de la Vallee manages the day-to-day operations of the Point de Mire Community Centre.
"Early childhood is considered a crucial period for developing cultural identity. Our Government is proud to support this project of the Association francophone de la Vallee for Acadian and Francophone families in the community."
-The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
"Our two official languages play a key role in the development of our communities and our identity as Canadians. This project for young families will help strengthen the region's Acadian and Francophone community."
-Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova)
"The Association francophone de la Vallee is very pleased with this contribution, which will make it possible to establish services for young Francophone families in Greenwood. We are aware that these services should have been introduced a long time ago, given the vitality of the Francophone community in the Annapolis Valley. We are proud to finally be able to offer these services to parents in our community."
-Helene Lavigne, President, Association francophone de la Vallee
