Echostreams is Teaming up with CacheIO and Orange Silicon Valley to Demonstrate 2 Million tpmC Flash Storage at ISC2014 in Leipzig, Germany

Echostreams Innovative Solutions, LLC today announced the proof-of-concept demo for an all-SSD-flash storage solution for high-performance-computing at International Supercomputing Conference 2014, reaching 2 million transactions per minute running Oracle RAC 12c Performance test. The benchmark test at Orange Silicon Valley consists of five commodity servers running Oracle 12c Real Application Cluster software, CacheIO FlashCache Appliance based on Echostreams patented FlacheSAN2 flash server, and commodity iSCSI array. For detailed configuration and test results, please visit http://www.cacheio.com/osv_benchmark. Besides high IOPs and tpmC, FlacheSAN2 also provides up to 170 Gbit/s throughput sustained random read. For more information, please visit www.echostreams.com.

“Many enterprises are looking to increase the performance of their mission critical databases to accelerate their business processes. The emerging all-flash storage arrays require a complete replacement of existing disk arrays, incurring high capital and data migration costs, as well as lacking in mature storage management features that customers have depended on for years. Server-side flash does not scale to cache all active data, making its latency and throughput profile more similar to that of spinning disks than flash memory,” said Bang Change, CEO of CacheIO. “CacheIO network cache scales to 23TB flash capacity per RU (Rack Unit) at one-fifth the cost of all-flash arrays, servicing all active data at sub millisecond latency while increasing disk array utilization from 30% to 80%. As a shared network resource, CacheIO flash cache allows service providers and enterprise customers to monetize performance by provisioning performance dynamically based on service level agreements.”

“We are always looking for emerging technology that can accelerate database performance and help us increase disk utilization and also preserve existing legacy storage investments to serve the ever increasing need for capacity. CacheIO has demonstrated one of the top Transactions-Per-Minute benchmark results accelerating low cost iSCSI SATA storage. To a service provider like Orange, it has the important benefit of provisioning performance based on SLAs, allowing us to monetize performance as a utility,” said Jérome Laudouar, VP, IT Infrastructure Technologies & Engineering of Orange.

“Storage used to be the bottleneck in supercomputing environment and is being neglected due to the limitation of rotating drives’ performance. With flash SSD technology maturing and the abundance of I/O bandwidth offered by the Intel Xeon server platforms, we are able to create unique and purpose-built solutions to improve and push the storage performance envelope to a new high. The FlacheSAN2 solution is designed specifically for SSD flash to address the performance bottleneck while increasing energy efficiency and storage density,” said Gene Lee, President and CEO of Echostreams Innovative Solutions. “Our FlacheSAN2 solution provides users twice the storage capacity and twice the performance while being able to maintain less CapEx and OpEx costs compared to any competing solution.”

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
Blockchain. A day doesn’t seem to go by without seeing articles and discussions about the technology. According to PwC executive Seamus Cushley, approximately $1.4B has been invested in blockchain just last year. In Gartner’s recent hype cycle for emerging technologies, blockchain is approaching the peak. It is considered by Gartner as one of the ‘Key platform-enabling technologies to track.’ While there is a lot of ‘hype vs reality’ discussions going on, there is no arguing that blockchain is b...
The need for greater agility and scalability necessitated the digital transformation in the form of following equation: monolithic to microservices to serverless architecture (FaaS). To keep up with the cut-throat competition, the organisations need to update their technology stack to make software development their differentiating factor. Thus microservices architecture emerged as a potential method to provide development teams with greater flexibility and other advantages, such as the abili...
Product connectivity goes hand and hand these days with increased use of personal data. New IoT devices are becoming more personalized than ever before. You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
