PLEASANTON, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/23/14 -- Energous Corporation ("Energous" or "the Company") (NASDAQ: WATT), the developer of WattUp, a disruptive wire-free charging technology for electronic devices that provides power at a distance with complete mobility under full software control, today announced that it will be added to the Russell Microcap® Index when Russell Investments reconstitutes its comprehensive set of U.S. and global equity indexes on June 27th, according to a preliminary list of additions posted June 13th on www.russell.com/indexes.
"Inclusion in the Russell Microcap Index raises our profile within the investment community, and is a validation of our progress," said Stephen Rizzone, CEO of Energous Corporation. "As we continue to execute on our strategy to bring WattUp to market, we believe our membership will give us broader exposure to institutional investors as well as increased liquidity."
The membership in the Russell Microcap Index lasts for a minimum of one year and generates additional inclusion in certain indexes. Russell Investments determines membership for its equity indexes based on objective, market-capitalization other attributes. Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for active investment strategies. Russell calculates more than 700,000 benchmarks daily covering approximately 98 percent of the investable market globally, 80 countries and more than 10,000 securities. Approximately $5.2 trillion in assets are benchmarked to the Russell Indexes.
Annual reconstitution of Russell Indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization to create the Russell 3000 Index and Russell Microcap Index. These investment tools originated from Russell's multi-manager investment business in the early 1980s when the company saw the need for a more objective, market-driven set of benchmarks in order to evaluate outside investment managers.

About Energous Corporation
Energous Corporation is developing WattUp, a wire-free charging technology that will transform the way people charge and power their electronic devices at home, in the office, in the car and beyond. WattUp is a revolutionary, patent- and trademark-pending solution that delivers intelligent, scalable power via the same radio bands as a Wi-Fi router. WattUp differs from current wireless charging systems in that it delivers meaningful, useable power, at a distance, while allowing users to roam while charging. The result is a wire-free experience that saves users from having to remember to plug in their devices or place them on a mat. Energous will initially license WattUp to the wearable and mobile-accessory markets and will expand to other markets such as Wi-Fi routers and smartphones over time.
