Lingraphica Introduces Award-Winning Integrated iPad App and Cloud-Based Speech Therapy Solution to Help Survivors of Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury Recover Language Skills

Lingraphica, The Aphasia Company, today introduced the iPad® app component of TalkPath Therapy, its integrated cloud-based speech therapy solution for the millions of adults with aphasia, a speech disorder that affects the ability to speak, write or comprehend language, and the clinicians who work with them to improve language skills. The company, which has researched and produced rehabilitative speech-generating devices and assistive technology for adults with aphasia since 1990, is offering the subscription-based solution, available on the iPad and the Web, for free during its extended trial period.

Last week, TalkPath Therapy for the iPad was named best mobile commerce app in the 2014 New Jersey Technology Council’s Mobile Apps Forum competition, which fielded entries from companies based in multiple states and several countries.

With one account users can access more than 4,600 scientifically designed speech therapy exercises online or offline from the iPad and online from a Web browser.

TalkPath Therapy was designed under the guidance of a team of speech-language pathologists and the company conducted significant usability testing with members of its Lingraphica Aphasia Users’ Group – each of whom is working to rebuild speech lost because of stroke. The company’s own research shows that with continued practice using TalkPath Therapy’s proprietary icons and content, users can recover language lost to due to a stroke or other brain injury.

“TalkPath Therapy is a truly mobile speech therapy solution that meets the needs of individuals with aphasia and their clinicians,” said Andrew Gomory, CEO of Lingraphica. “We used our three decades of experience to transform our offerings into an even more meaningful and effective rehabilitative solution.”

Clinicians from around the globe are already raving about TalkPath Therapy. Denise McCall, M.A., CCC-SLP, executive director of the Snyder Center for Aphasia Life Enhancement (SCALE) in Baltimore, Md. is using the solution with numerous members of the center and has seen noticeable improvement.

“Our members who use TalkPath Therapy are improving their speech, gaining back more confidence and their caregivers are reporting that they are more engaged with their family and friends at home and in their community,” said McCall. “TalkPath Therapy reinforces the prior research of Lingraphica’s Dr. Richard Steele and proves that individuals with aphasia can get better with continued practice.”

Allison Baird, CCC-SLP, President at SpeechWorks, Inc. based in Winnipeg, Manitoba has also seen noticeable improvement in her clients using the platform.

“The ease and accessibility of the platform combined with the specially designed speech therapy exercises provides my clients with a life-changing tool that empowers and enables them to progress,” said Baird. “The TalkPath Therapy results are very informative and helpful. I can tell from the reports that my clients perform better on the homework exercises than they do in conversation, and this insight helps me coach my clients during therapy sessions. It also provides a lot of hope that online platforms can support continued recovery for adults with aphasia.”

Clinicians using TalkPath Therapy have access to extensive reporting features including task-based reports and detailed activity reports. These features make it easy to show improvement and adjust plans in real time. No other solution on the market allows for this functionality on multiple platforms.

“We are always looking to create solutions that help individuals communicate and re-connect with their loved ones,” said Gomory. “Whether it’s our speech-generating devices or our new TalkPath Therapy, we keep adults with aphasia, their caregivers and the clinicians who help them in mind at all times.”

TalkPath Therapy now joins the company’s growing line of product offerings including speech-generating devices, and communication apps.

Enterprises are moving to the cloud faster than most of us in security expected. CIOs are going from 0 to 100 in cloud adoption and leaving security teams in the dust. Once cloud is part of an enterprise stack, it’s unclear who has responsibility for the protection of applications, services, and data. When cloud breaches occur, whether active compromise or a publicly accessible database, the blame must fall on both service providers and users. In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Ben Johnson, C...

Data scientists must access high-performance computing resources across a wide-area network. To achieve cloud-based HPC visualization, researchers must transfer datasets and visualization results efficiently. HPC clusters now compute GPU-accelerated visualization in the cloud cluster. To efficiently display results remotely, a high-performance, low-latency protocol transfers the display from the cluster to a remote desktop. Further, tools to easily mount remote datasets and efficiently transfer...

Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
