Prudential named to 2014 Computerworld list of Best Places to Work in IT

For the sixth consecutive year Computerworld magazine has named Prudential one of the “100 Best Places to Work in IT.” Prudential ranked No. 12 among large organizations on the Best Places to Work in IT list, which was published today in a special issue of Computerworld in print and online.

The 100 Best Places to Work in IT list includes 55 large corporations, 23 midsize organizations, and 22 small companies. “We’re honored that Computerworld recognized us once again. Our information technology professionals partner with our businesses to deliver quality results and are proud of the work they do,” said Barbara Koster, senior vice president and chief information officer at Prudential. “They take great pride in Prudential’s brand and reputation.”

Prudential offers competitive salaries, benefits and perks including programs that provide financial security, investment opportunities and support for career and personal growth. “But, what makes us a great place to work is our people. From senior leadership to entry level employees, our people care about one another and about the community. The work environment is supportive; family oriented and supports work/life balance,” said Koster.

Throughout the company, more than 70 percent of employees use some form of alternative working arrangements. Technology employees support the systems necessary for Prudential employees to work remotely including a remote access portal, virtual desktop infrastructure and mobile applications that can be accessed from a variety of mobile devices.

In addition, Prudential’s technology leaders meet twice a year to network, share best practices, hear from industry thought leaders and talk about issues facing the community. The focus is on ensuring people have the right tools, training, and support to do their work. The meetings also focus on attracting a new generation of talent into the organization through community partnerships, a robust summer internship program, and recruiting at local high schools, colleges and universities.

Prudential also has a program that trains urban high school graduates and military service men and women for careers in information technology. “For several years, Prudential has been a lead sponsor of Workforce Opportunity Services, a non-profit organization that provides education and career opportunities to urban high school graduates and post 9/11 military veterans,” said Koster. In April, the company opened a business and technology services center in El Paso, Texas, which offers quality job opportunities to military spouses, veterans and their families, and other community members. “Over the next several years, the center is expected to provide about 300 new jobs in the community, which is a testament to our support of the community’s needs.”

“Hiring the best and the brightest IT pros, offering them competitive pay and providing top-notch benefits is just the beginning for the outstanding employers on this year's Best Places to Work in IT list,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “Both newcomers to the list and rock-steady stalwarts nurture their talent with challenging business-critical projects, extensive training opportunities and ongoing career development programs. They invest in their own futures by investing in their employees.”
