Independent Research Firm Cites Information Builders as a Leader in Agile Business Intelligence

WebFOCUS Platform Among Solutions Leading the Pack in Agile BI

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 07/07/14 -- Information Builders, a leader in business intelligence (BI) and analytics, information integrity, and integration solutions, today announced that Forrester Research has recognized the company as a Leader in its report, "The Forrester Wave™: Agile Business Intelligence Platforms, Q3 2014." The recognition is based on an evaluation of the company's WebFOCUS BI and analytics platform and its ability to meet criteria such as IT-enabled self-service BI, data integration, mashups and wrangling, and richness of advanced data visualization capabilities, among others.

The report, authored by Boris Evelson with Holger Kisker, Martha Bennett, and Nasry Angel, evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the top 16 software providers in the Agile BI category. Agile BI is a key element in the business agility equation. According to the Forrester report, business agility often equals "the ability to adopt, react, and succeed in the midst of an unending fountain of customer-driven requirements."

Forrester Research states, "Information Builders moves its leading enterprise BI platform front and center of the Agile BI market." WebFOCUS earned top scores for the features tech professionals need to enable business user self-service BI and business user capabilities to perform data integration tasks within the BI tool. Forrester Research selected BI software vendors for evaluation by BI revenue and market presence; platforms that can query DBMS using SQL and MDX; a product that can analyze data from multiple sources, not just a single ERP app; customers that use the product for more than one business domain; and frequent interest from Forrester clients in the form of questions about, or mentions of, a vendor in inquiries about BI.

The Forrester Wave report scored Information Builders highly for business user capabilities to provision applications and data, and for the effectiveness of its user interface and advanced data visualization functionality. Finally, the report states, "Clients also gave Information Builders a top score for its product vision."

The Forrester Wave: Agile Business Intelligence Platforms report states "all modern enterprise BI platforms are scalable and robust, support and promote a single version of the truth, and minimize operational risk. However, these capabilities carry a hefty price tag of complexity, rigidity, and inflexibility, and as a result they are slow to react to constantly changing customer and business requirements."

Information Builders achieved the highest score possible in the evaluation criteria of IT-enabled end-user self-service BI, end-user self-service data integration, and product direction as well as client feedback from its customers for advanced data visualization and end-user self-service BI.

These front-line workers -- who represent the majority of the BI user base -- can then create and share their own BI reports through a function known as InfoApps, simple, intuitive apps that require no technical savvy and allow workers to share information quickly and with interactive elements.

"Organizations must not only manage change but embrace it, and the ability to process large volumes of data, ensure data quality, and integrate data to make information available to users at every level is critical to agility in the market," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders. "Our WebFOCUS BI and analytics platform is designed to empower organizations to interpret and react to data efficiently and effectively, while making BI ubiquitous for users to allow them to positively impact the business by resolving customer issues, identifying market shifts and eliminating internal inefficiencies."

Successful organizations adapt and react quickly to customer-driven requirements, often because workers are empowered with easy access to agile, flexible, and responsive enterprise BI tools.

Information Builders' WebFOCUS is a flexible, fast, and scalable BI and analytics platform that helps organizations use information to their competitive advantage by empowering more people with the right information at the right time. It provides self-service analytics optimized for every type of user -- intuitive analysis, reporting, and query tools for information specialists; a BI Portal and InfoApps for non-technical and business users; and data visualization and advanced analytics for business analysts. Moreover, WebFOCUS ensures data quality and consistency even when accessing complex, disparate systems with its integrated Data Quality and Integration Suites.

As Marc Andreessen says software is eating the world. Everything is rapidly moving toward being software-defined – from our phones and cars through our washing machines to the datacenter. You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
