The Humana Healthier Choices program is returning to the Windy City for its seventh consecutive year at Taste of Chicago. Working with a panel of local physicians, health and well-being company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) identified 52 healthy foods from 29 Chicago restaurants – the largest number of menu items in the program’s history – representing 44 percent of all vendors at this year’s food festival.
Health enthusiasts, those watching their waistlines and people with chronic conditions often want to enjoy festival treats but still need to be aware of the nutritional values of the foods they are eating. As the only resource at Taste that evaluates the calories, saturated fat, sodium and ingredients of festival foods, the Humana Healthier Choices program allows for guilt-free indulgence. The complete list of healthy appetizers, entrees and desserts, along with wellness activities and opportunities to win prizes, will once again be provided by the Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide.
“We’re excited to see that Humana’s commitment to health and well-being continues to flourish at this great event with 30 percent more healthier food options than last year for Taste-goers to enjoy,” said Bruno Piquin, Humana Senior Markets Vice President, Northern Division. “This year marks our largest and most diversified selection of Humana Healthier Choices to date, including Brazilian, Japanese, Mexican, Irish and Italian cuisine.”
The Humana Healthier Choices are indicated by a green apple on the menu boards at participating restaurant booths and listed in the Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide. Free copies of the Passport Guide can be found at the Humana tent, located on Columbus Drive between Jackson Boulevard and the Buckingham Fountain, and can be downloaded for free at the Taste of Chicago website and via facebook.com/TheTasteOfChicago. Taste-goers are welcome to beat the heat by enjoying a shaded seating area and free cold water in the Humana tent throughout the course of the five-day festival.
All of the restaurants participating in the 2014 Taste of Chicago were invited to submit menu items for consideration to be listed in the Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide. For an item to be considered, restaurants must submit nutritional details including calories, sodium content, saturated fat and the list of ingredients.

New! Walk, Run or Bike Taste to Donate to Nonprofits via the Charity Miles App
New to this year’s Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide is the addition of the philanthropic exercise app, Charity Miles. Humana will donate 25 cents for each mile biked, walked or ran to the national charity of the user’s choice.
Humana’s contribution will be open to anyone who logs into the app in the Chicago metropolitan area starting on Wednesday, July 9 until the close of the 2014 Taste of Chicago on Sunday, July 13. Users are also encouraged to share their progress during the festival through social media using #TasteOfChi and #HumanaWalkIt.
“As Humana works to improve the health and well-being of our communities, Charity Miles is a natural evolution for the Humana Healthier Choices program,” said Neal Fischer, M.D., Humana Regional Medical Director. “This app is a win-win for users, as it encourages physical activity and allows people to give back to a charity of their choice.”

Regulatory requirements exist to promote the controlled sharing of information, while protecting the privacy and/or security of the information. Regulations for each type of information have their own set of rules, policies, and guidelines. Cloud Service Providers (CSP) are faced with increasing demand for services at decreasing prices. Demonstrating and maintaining compliance with regulations is a nontrivial task and doing so against numerous sets of regulatory requirements can be daunting task...

Extracting business value from Internet of Things (IoT) data doesn’t happen overnight. There are several requirements that must be satisfied, including IoT device enablement, data analysis, real-time detection of complex events and automated orchestration of actions. Unfortunately, too many companies fall short in achieving their business goals by implementing incomplete solutions or not focusing on tangible use cases. In his general session at @ThingsExpo, Dave McCarthy, Director of Products...

Businesses and business units of all sizes can benefit from cloud computing, but many don't want the cost, performance and security concerns of public cloud nor the complexity of building their own private clouds. Today, some cloud vendors are using artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify cloud deployment and management. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Ajay Gulati, Co-founder and CEO of ZeroStack, will discuss how AI can simplify cloud operations. He will cover the following topics: why clou...

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to simplify and streamline our lives by automating routine tasks that distract us from our goals. This promise is based on the ubiquitous deployment of smart, connected devices that link everything from industrial control systems to automobiles to refrigerators. Unfortunately, comparatively few of the devices currently deployed have been developed with an eye toward security, and as the DDoS attacks of late October 2016 have demonstrated, this oversight can ...

Without a clear strategy for cost control and an architecture designed with cloud services in mind, costs and operational performance can quickly get out of control. To avoid multiple architectural redesigns requires extensive thought and planning. DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain. Internet-of-Things discussions can end up either going down the consumer gadget rabbit hole or focused on the sort of data logging that industrial manufacturers have been doing forever. However, in fact, companies today are already using IoT data both to optimize their operational technology and to improve the experience of customer interactions in novel ways. Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they...
