MetaMetrics Offers Two Major Enhancements to The Quantile Framework for Mathematics

Enhancements Include Differentiation of the Scale for Early Grades and More Refined Alignment With the Common Core State Standards

DURHAM, NC -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/14 -- MetaMetrics® recently introduced two major enhancements to its Quantile® Framework for Mathematics. The Quantile Framework, which targets instruction and forecasts understanding by placing mathematics curriculum, resources and students on the same scale, now provides more precise measurement and differentiated instruction for students in the early grades. Previously, Quantile student measures and QSCs received a code for EM (Emerging Mathematician) for any measure at or below 0Q. The Quantile scale below 0Q is now delineated to provide a numeric measure such as EM260Q. The smaller the number following the EM code, the more complex the skill or concept is or more developed a learner's understanding is.

Secondly, the Quantile Framework, which includes over 500 Quantile Skills and Concepts (QSCs), has been augmented with over 80 new QSCs to ensure the Framework covered all concepts encompassed in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This expanded and comprehensive set of QSCs ensures that teachers will find resources and tools to help their students be college and career ready.

To highlight these two enhancements, a new Quantile map has been developed that provides example QSCs at the early grades as well as QSCs that are aligned with the CCSS. With the Quantile Map, educators can explore the interconnectedness of mathematical skills and concepts and identify those skills and concepts that are critical for progressing student learning. The new Quantile map is available to download at Quantiles.com.

The Quantile Framework for Mathematics is a unique measurement system that uses a common scale and metric to assess a student's mathematical achievement level and the difficulty of specific skills and concepts. The Quantile Framework describes a student's ability to solve mathematical problems and the demand of the skills and concepts typically taught in kindergarten mathematics through Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Precalculus. Quantile measures take the guesswork out of instruction by describing which mathematical skills and concepts the student has learned and is ready to learn. Educators and parents can use Quantile measures to connect the student with resources that meet his or her unique learning needs and to determine if the student is on track to pass year-end assessments and be ready for the demands of college and careers.
