LANSING, MI -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/14 -- Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) today announced the endorsement of Governor Rick Snyder for re-election, pointing to his strong support of retail issues and his keen understanding of the importance of Michigan's retail industry to the state economy.
The endorsement by the MRA Board of Directors was unanimous.
"Gov. Snyder and MRA have developed a strong working relationship during the past four years, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in his second term," said MRA President and CEO James P. Hallan.
"The governor and his administration are always willing to listen to the retail industry's ideas and concerns and have demonstrated their solid commitment to improving the state's retail and overall business climates."
Key retail legislative issues supported by Gov. Snyder include the Shopping Reform and Modernization Act, the Organized Retail Crime Act and Michigan Main Street Fairness legislation, Hallan said, in addition to repeal of the Michigan Business Tax and phase out of the Personal Property Tax.
"More important than the governor's support of any one issue is his overall commitment to creating jobs in Michigan and making our state a better place for business," Hallan said.
Michigan Retailers Association represents nearly 5,000 members and their more than 15,000 stores and websites in Michigan. Retail is directly responsible for more than 850,000 jobs in Michigan's economy, and one-fourth of Michigan jobs are supported directly and indirectly by retail sales. Eighteen percent of Michigan's total economic activity (GDP) comes from retail.
