TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - July 09, 2014) - Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) today announced its partnership with Entertainment Industry Foundation Canada to fund breast cancer research with the support of long-term partner CIBC. CBCF, EIF and other cancer funders will raise funds for this new research collaborative through the Stand Up To Cancer televised event, airing Friday, September 5, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) focuses on the creation of "Dream Teams" -- collaborative research teams that forge partnerships between scientists from different disciplines and institutions. This distinct model breaks down barriers to accelerate the development and availability of new cancer treatments.
As the largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research in Canada, CBCF is committed to funding research that has the greatest impact for the breast cancer community. CBCF's partnership with SU2C will see its investment, coupled with funds raised from the telecast, make donor dollars go further to develop innovative and effective breast cancer therapies.
"By forming collaborations within the cancer community and supporting the best research, we can give Canadians the best breast cancer treatment options possible," says Sandra Palmaro, Co-CEO, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "The Stand Up To Cancer program has incredible potential to move research from 'the bench to the bedside' more quickly, bringing us closer to a future without breast cancer."
CBCF has joined EIF Canada's Stand Up To Cancer initiative with funding from CIBC.
"For more than two decades, CIBC has partnered with Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds for breast cancer research, advocacy and treatment," says Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President, CIBC. "We are thrilled to be part of Stand Up To Cancer which offers the opportunity to significantly impact the lives of people affected by breast cancer."
The celebrity telecast will seek public support and funds, while increasing awareness of the progress being made in cancer research. All funds received from the Canadian public during the broadcast will go towards Canadian research teams, education and awareness programs conducted in Canada.
