The Weather Company's Professional Division Introduces Exclusive New Historic Datasets for Insurers

WSI Launches WeatherFX(TM) Replay to Help Insurance Companies Detect Fraud and Identify Highly Impacted Areas Resulting From Weather Disasters

ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwired - July 15, 2014) - WSI (Weather Services International), the professional division of The Weather Company and innovation engine of The Weather Channel, today announced the launch of WeatherFX Replay.

WeatherFX Replay is a geospatial claims verification product that is designed to help insurance companies immediately pinpoint areas that have been highly impacted by severe weather.

Instead of waiting for claims to roll in from policyholders, Property & Casualty Insurers are now able to make more confident decisions knowing when and where damaging weather was, is, and will be.

WeatherFX Replay is available as a historic module within the company's WeatherFX Response product or as a GIS service/data feed. The product offers proprietary historical datasets that are available exclusively through WSI, including:

  • Tornado Debris Data -- This dataset indicates areas where debris from tornado-related damage has been detected in the air
  • Wind Damage Data -- This proprietary algorithm detects high wind speed and defines geo-spatial areas that likely had the highest chance of damage
  • Hail Verification Data -- This data creates a footprint based on hail size that identifies areas/policyholders at risk for hail damage

What is WeatherFX Response?

WeatherFX Response is an interactive executive dashboard that enables users to (1) quickly assess multiple perils impacting a critical number of households, (2) identify widespread areas that have a substantial risk of receiving wind damage, hail and tornadoes up to 3 days in advance, (3) set up e-mail and text messaging alerts that can be sent to mobile devices when critical business thresholds are reached, (4) monitor real-time weather radar and social media feeds to understand where the worst of a disaster has struck so that resources can be deployed accordingly and, (5) proactively text message or email policyholders in an impacted area by circling a geographic region. The platform also offers a tropical forecast module known as Tropical PHD, designed to forecast storms out to 15 days in advance.

To learn more about WeatherFX Replay or Response and/or to evaluate the platform via a free trial, contact Katelyn Matheny at [email protected] or 608-236-4378.

Enterprises are moving to the cloud faster than most of us in security expected. CIOs are going from 0 to 100 in cloud adoption and leaving security teams in the dust. Once cloud is part of an enterprise stack, it’s unclear who has responsibility for the protection of applications, services, and data. When cloud breaches occur, whether active compromise or a publicly accessible database, the blame must fall on both service providers and users. In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Ben Johnson, C...
