Fortinet's FortiADC Wins TMC's 2014 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award

Enterprise FortiADC-4000D Solution Earns Top Recognition for Its High-Performance, Scalability, Availability and Rich Feature Set

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/14 -- Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a world leader in high-performance network security -- today announced that the company's FortiADC-4000D system has won a 2014 Communications Solutions Product of the Year award from global integrated media company TMC. One of TMC's most coveted awards, this honor recognizes companies that create exceptional products in voice, data and video communications markets.

"We are proud to receive this award from TMC recognizing the FortiADC-4000D as an outstanding choice for the enterprise with its expansive range of high-performance capabilities, strong security features and exceptional overall value," said Mark Byers, director of product marketing, ADC solutions at Fortinet. "This award underscores Fortinet's continued commitment to the enterprise and its mission to constantly raise the bar for innovation even higher to satisfy and surpass the increasing demands of its customers."

The FortiADC-4000D is a high-performance application delivery controller (ADC) for enterprise data centers and managed service providers designed to provide scalability and availability for Internet-based applications that reside in one or more datacenters.

"Congratulations to Fortinet for receiving a 2014 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "The FortiADC-4000D has demonstrated true innovation and is amongst the best solutions that facilitate voice, data and video communications brought to market in the past twelve months. I look forward to continued excellence from Fortinet in 2014 and beyond."

In order to be eligible for TMC's Communications Award, all nominated products must belong to one or more of the following technology categories: IP Communications, telecom, call center, CRM, service provider offerings, developer services, networking and wireless services (including cell phones, PDA's and smartphones), hardware, software, add-ons, peripherals and related services created in the past twelve months.

The FortiADC Advantage

The FortiADC-4000D delivers fast, secure and intelligent acceleration and distribution for demanding enterprise application environments while optimizing availability, user experience, performance and scalability of Enterprise Application Delivery. The solution represents an expansion of Fortinet's greater Application Delivery Controller lineup that provides high performance, rich features and strong security for high-volume application environments while reducing overall total cost of ownership (TCO). Unlike competing ADC manufacturers that require additional options for advanced port connectivity, the FortiADC-4000D includes 16 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports and 8 high-performance 10-Gigabit SFP+ Ethernet ports at no extra cost.

Key features of the FortiADC-4000D include:

  • 50 Gbps of L4 throughput and up to 1,600,000 L7 transactions per second for handling enterprise and data center application traffic volumes
  • 16x GE ports and 8x 10 GB SFP+ Ethernet ports provide high-throughput connectivity to eliminate network bottlenecks
  • Dedicated SSL offload hardware provides increased performance for up to 31,000 SSL connections per second
  • Dual hot-swappable power supplies provide additional redundancy by supporting separate power connections and allow power supplies to be swapped without interrupting device operations
  • A dedicated management port allows remote device control even when it's powered down

In addition, the latest FortiADC operating system update includes two new features -- IP Reputation and Virtual Domains (VDOMs) along with other enhancements, such as GUI improvements and detailed event logging, aligning with Fortinet's comprehensive strategy to create high-performance and secure application delivery products. Combined with high-capacity SSL offloading and built-in firewalls, FortiADC offers additional security features not found in other ADC appliances at these price points.

Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome,” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
