AVON, OH -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/14 -- Homeowners have long been performing paint and home updates, but four years ago, FrogTape® brand painter's tape changed the game by adding a major incentive for homeowners to keep DIY'ing -- especially when it comes to paint jobs. The 2014 FrogTape® Earn Your Stripes® room makeover contest invites homeowners to paint a room in their home using FrogTape for a chance at a $5,000 grand prize and several secondary prizes. This year, FrogTape is excited to announce the winners of the 2014 contest who will join the Earn Your Stripes Hall of Fame. The $5,000 Grand Prize Winner is Amy B. from Pleasant View, Utah; coming in second place with $2,500 for her project is Julie R. from Westfield Center, Ohio; and the third place winner, Corinna H. from Hampton, Va., received $1,000 for her hard work.
Amy's "Taping it Modern Mudroom" features a contemporary woven pattern created with FrogTape. The intricate light blue, gold and white hued design that adorns the walls earned her the $5,000 grand prize. Not only did she update the entire space with paint including pillows and a rug, Amy also increased the functionality of her mudroom by adding extra storage and dedicated spots to house everyday items, like mail, keys and more.
"The creativity in projects has heightened each year for the Earn Your Stripes room makeover contest," said Kristin Osinski, senior media manager, ShurTech Brands, LLC. "In our fourth year, we're amazed to see homeowners using FrogTape to create impressive room updates with unique wall designs as well as painted accessories. The projects entered this year truly exemplified that with a high-quality painter's tape, professional results can be attained -- even at a novice level."
Julie's second place winning project, "Gianna's Toddler Upgrade," displays the transition from an uninspiring blue nursery to a bright room perfect for a toddler. FrogTape® Shape Tape was used to create crescent borders in yellow, lilac and blue along the walls using the scallop pattern. Shape Tape was also used to personalize a swan furniture piece for additional pizazz in the room.
"DIY Home Office with an Edge" is the third place winning makeover by Corinna H. She transformed her former junk room into an organized area with vivid Aztec details. She painted these by hand using FrogTape. Stripes and shapes were also painted on storage baskets, binders and pillows within the office.
This year, DIYers documented their room transformations with before, during and after photos, and all projects were reviewed by a FrogTape panel of judges. Entries were judged based on workmanship, originality and complexity.
With the introduction of FrogTape Shape Tape, homeowners' design possibilities increased even more for the 2014 contest. Available in pre-cut Wave, Chevron and Scallop patterns, Shape Tape offers homeowners a hassle-free way to achieve repetitive designs when painting. All approved 2014 Earn Your Stripes entries received a free roll of the tape to try on their next painting venture.
In addition to first, second and third place, eight homeowners were named "Best in Show" from each of the contest categories and were awarded $100 Visa® gift cards: The winners are:
- Best Furniture & Decor: Marcy K., Wolf Creek, OR
- Best Use of Shape Tape: Heather M., Elwood, IN
- Best Living and Dining Room: Kathy M., Bloomington, MN
- Best Kitchen: Yolanda P., Mansfield, Texas
- Best Bedroom: Hannah H., Winter Springs, FL
- Best Bathroom: Jessica S., Katy, Texas
- Best Kids Room: Leah J., Albuquerque, NM
- Best Other: Lois H., Schoolcraft, WI

Enterprise IT has been in the era of Hybrid Cloud for some time now. But it seems most conversations about Hybrid are focused on integrating AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google ECM into existing on-premises systems. Where is all the Private Cloud? What do technology providers need to do to make their offerings more compelling? How should enterprise IT executives and buyers define their focus, needs, and roadmap, and communicate that clearly to the providers?

Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...

In addition to all the benefits, IoT is also bringing new kind of customer experience challenges - cars that unlock themselves, thermostats turning houses into saunas and baby video monitors broadcasting over the internet. This list can only increase because while IoT services should be intuitive and simple to use, the delivery ecosystem is a myriad of potential problems as IoT explodes complexity. So finding a performance issue is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest (in a Big Data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is very appealing to the industrial IoT sector. The problem Big Data vendors have, however, is access to that data in motion at the sensor location. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Scott Allen, CMO of FreeWave, discussed how as IoT is increasingly adopted by industrial markets, there is going to be an increased demand for sensor data from the outermos...

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they...

When it comes to cloud computing, the ability to turn massive amounts of compute cores on and off on demand sounds attractive to IT staff, who need to manage peaks and valleys in user activity. With cloud bursting, the majority of the data can stay on premises while tapping into compute from public cloud providers, reducing risk and minimizing need to move large files. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Scott Jeschonek, Director of Product Management at Avere Systems, discussed the IT and busin...
