LA PECHE, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 07/23/14 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced $68,667 in funding for Theatre Wakefield. Of this amount, $62,467 comes from the Development of Official-Language Communities Program, $3,400 is allocated under the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF), and $2,800 is provided through the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program.
This funding has, among other things, made it possible to present the Ta Da! Festival and helped showcase the heritage of the Outaouais Anglophone community.
-- For more than 10 years, Theatre Wakefield has created and presented English-language theatre productions in the Outaouais region. -- Under the CAPF-funded project, a raised movable stage will be assembled and installed for Wakefield Community Centre or outdoor performances. Five ticket-office display windows will also be purchased. -- In recent years, Theatre Wakefield has held five summer theatre festivals under the name Piggyback Fringe Festival. The event was renamed the Ta Da! Festival in 2013. -- In addition to taking part in the English-Language Arts Network (ELAN) touring network, Theatre Wakefield offers youth summer camps and local history workshops.
"I am delighted that our Government supports an institution as dynamic and vibrant as Theatre Wakefield, a creation and performance venue devoted to presenting and showcasing the region's rich heritage."
- The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
"This Canadian Heritage funding has helped improve staging, lighting, and the safety and security of actors, dancers and artists who perform at Theatre Wakefield. It has also allowed us to present talented local painters, singers, musicians and actors who have been warmly received at our Ta Da! Summer Festival."
- Peter MacGibbon, General Manager of Theatre Wakefield
