ManageEngine Launches WiFi Monitor Plus
|By Business Wire
|July 24, 2014 09:15 AM EDT
the real-time IT management company, today launched WiFi
Monitor Plus. Available immediately, the free diagnostic app lets IT
admins in SMBs and large enterprises monitor, analyze and survey WiFi
signals in any area, directly from their Android mobile devices. WiFi
Monitor Plus is available for download at http://ow.ly/zsHg9.
WiFi Monitor Plus offers both Analyzer and Surveyor modes, making it the
first WiFi monitor to offer both modes in one app.
Analyzer mode lets users view available networks, graphs of the
scanned networks’ signal strength, and channels with interference. The
information helps users take appropriate actions to optimize WiFi
Surveyor mode allows users to survey a site for the best signal
strength. The heat map feature indicates the strength of the scanned
WiFi networks. Users can upload their floor plans and survey different
locations on the site for signal strength.
The application’s simple, user-friendly GUI helps users quickly access
relevant data including best signals, overlaps in a channel, and site
locations with the best signal strength. The app also has a Channel
Graph widget that users can add to their devices’ home screens to
instantly access the information without having to invoke the app. With
this free app, IT admins gain valuable insights such as the need to
switch off specific channels due to interference or deploy access points
to help improve WiFi connectivity.
WiFi Monitor Plus has smart filters to show signals with the best
strength by default and also by frequency. It intelligently filters out
the weak signals, making the interface clutter free. Users, however,
have the option to view all the signals on a single graph.
“IT admins responsible for ensuring good network connectivity will
immensely benefit from this app,” said Vidya Vasu, head of the
ManageEngine community and Free Tools. “The channel interference graph
that shows both co-channel and inter-channel interference is a unique
functionality that adds value by equipping the IT admins with actionable
information. They can quickly decide on a course of action such as
turning off a channel to increase the WiFi signal strength.”
Users who have tried the beta version of WiFi Monitor Plus have been
particularly impressed with the app’s level of functionality and detail.
“Good app! I used [WiFi Monitor Plus] to quickly map out our WiFi setup
and enjoyed using the function to see which APs were interfering with
others,” said Charlie Smith, technical director at Charles Dhekelia Ltd.
“I have previously used WiFi Analyzer for jobs such as this, but the
ManageEngine solution does provide a lot more functionality and granular
detail, which is definitely useful to have.”
Chris David, solutions implementation specialist at Enterprise Bank &
Trust, said, “One of my favorite features is that I can set the analyzer
to show all networks or just the best networks. This is actually really
handy if you are in a noisy area. Kind of hard to make heads or tails of
the data when there are several networks that are just barely in range
clogging up the graphs. I also like all the details you can get in the
WiFi scan. We’re IT — we love details!”

A completely new computing platform is on the horizon. They’re called Microservers by some, ARM Servers by others, and sometimes even ARM-based Servers. No matter what you call them, Microservers will have a huge impact on the data center and on server computing in general.

DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain.

The Internet of Things (IoT), in all its myriad manifestations, has great potential. Much of that potential comes from the evolving data management and analytic (DMA) technologies and processes that allow us to gain insight from all of the IoT data that can be generated and gathered. This potential may never be met as those data sets are tied to specific industry verticals and single markets, with no clear way to use IoT data and sensor analytics to fulfill the hype being given the IoT today.

Successful transition from traditional IT to cloud computing requires three key ingredients: an IT architecture that allows companies to extend their internal best practices to the cloud, a cost point that allows economies of scale, and automated processes that manage risk exposure and maintain regulatory compliance with industry regulations (FFIEC, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, FISMA). The unique combination of VMware, the IBM Cloud, and Cloud Raxak, a 2016 Gartner Cool Vendor in IT Automation, provides a co...
