SFW Capital Partners (“SFW”), a specialized private equity firm that invests with management in mid-sized companies that provide analytical tools and related services, today announced that it has completed the sale of AGDATA, the leading provider of strategic data and analytical solutions to the world’s largest agricultural and animal health manufacturers, to Vista Equity Partners.

SFW invested in AGDATA, which is based in Charlotte, N.C., in 2010, and supported CEO Richard Bettison and the AGDATA management team in a wide range of strategic growth initiatives. These initiatives included the expansion of AGDATA’s globally leading customer base, investments in the company’s systems and business infrastructure, and the successful creation of AGDATA’s SaaS-based AgCelerate Industry Standard Platforms business unit. These initiatives enhanced AGDATA’s service offering for its customers and drove meaningful growth in AGDATA’s revenues during the period of SFW’s investment.

“This sale represents the culmination of our successful partnership with SFW. We appreciated the strong support and resources SFW provided, helping us accelerate our strategic growth plans, improve our business infrastructure, and enhance AGDATA’s position as the leading provider of information and analytics to the agriculture and animal health sector,” said Richard Bettison, CEO of AGDATA. “We look forward to working with our new partners at Vista Equity to build upon our achievements over the last four years.”

“AGDATA represents a very strong fit with our specialized, supportive investment strategy. We are grateful to Richard and the AGDATA management team for their leadership in the growth and development of AGDATA over the last four years. The company performed very well during our investment period and continues to be at the forefront of the application of strategic information solutions and analytics in the agricultural and animal health sectors,” said Roger Freeman, Partner at SFW, “We were pleased to work closely with Richard and the AGDATA management team to support the development of this remarkable company.”

When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it's important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. "Fly two mistakes high" is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Le...
Machine learning provides predictive models which a business can apply in countless ways to better understand its customers and operations. Since machine learning was first developed with flat, tabular data in mind, it is still not widely understood: when does it make sense to use graph databases and machine learning in combination? This talk tackles the question from two ends: classifying predictive analytics methods and assessing graph database attributes. It also examines the ongoing lifecycl...

To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in ...

Adding public cloud resources to an existing application can be a daunting process. The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle. When applications are hosted on servers, they produce immense quantities of logging data. Tom Chavez presents the four steps that quality engineers should include in every test plan for apps that produce log output or other machine data. Learn the ste...
