Glassdoor's OpenCompany Program Reaches 150+ Employers, a Commitment to Workplace Transparency

Survey Reveals 92% of Job Seekers Are More Likely to Apply at a Company Recognized for Transparency

SAUSALITO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/24/14 -- In just three months more than 150 companies across 20 industries have been recognized as OpenCompany Employers on Glassdoor, highlighting their commitment to workplace transparency. Workplace transparency is transforming the way companies communicate with both current and prospective employees. Transparency in the workplace is defined as being open about company culture, work and interview experiences, hiring practices, company goals and performance as well as employment packages and perks. Companies that have achieved OpenCompany status include: Allstate, CDW, Cigna, Clorox, Dell, Informatica, Hyatt, Kellogg Company, Nestlé Purina PetCare, salesforce.com and United Airlines.

Employers who make workplace transparency a priority are more likely to effectively recruit top talent. According to a new Glassdoor survey, 92% of job seekers are more likely to apply for a job opening at a company that has been recognized for being transparent. In addition, those job seekers are more likely to accept a job offer from a transparent company.

Other highlights of the survey include:

  • 95% of job seekers said that when they are evaluating a specific company or job offer, it is important that the company is open and transparent
  • 95% also said it is important to them that the company is responsive to feedback
  • 76% said it was important that the responses come directly from the company's CEO or executives
  • 69% of people said it was very important to work for a company that embraces transparency

To achieve OpenCompany status, employers are asked to register for a Free Employer Account and complete a simple 5-step process which includes getting all company information up to date, encouraging reviews and responding to reviews. Once an employer has successfully completed all 5 steps, they are awarded a badge on their Glassdoor employer profile highlighting their efforts. Any company can apply for OpenCompany status on Glassdoor.
