Las Vegas Eye Doctor Discusses Importance of an Enhanced Patient Experience

Dr. Helga Pizio of New Eyes Explains Why a Comfortable Office Environment, Accessible Doctors, Patient Education, and a Team Who Truly Cares Are Some of the Vital Components for Individuals Looking for a Quality Eye Treatment Experience

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwired) -- 07/24/14 -- New Eyes, a comprehensive eye care practice with locations across southern Nevada, has recently seen a year of change: a move to a new facility; consolidation with another established practice, Eye Care Associates of Nevada; and the addition of new staff members. Dr. Helga Pizio, an ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon as well as the founder of New Eyes, says these changes, along with the practice's commitment to enhancing the experience of each patient, are very important for one's overall treatment experience. "With the addition of three doctors, we have achieved excellent clinical coverage for the Las Vegas Valley. With more physicians at New Eyes, we are able to provide patients with greater access to eye care specialists."

But that's not all, says Dr. Pizio. In a recent blog entry on the practice's website titled: "Enhancing the Patient Experience," Dr. Pizio explains that excellent care by an eye doctor is only one part of what she feels patients need when visiting an ophthalmologist:

"If you are a 'top-notch' doctor, then your patients expect that your practice will provide them with a 'top-notch' experience. This includes not only great medical and surgical care but also that you have a well-trained, efficient, and courteous staff, your phones are answered by a caring, live person, magazines in the waiting room are current, you play trendy selected music in the waiting room, and that you have large screen TVs with interesting content."

Not to mention excellent materials available for patient education, says Dr. Pizio. In a second post on New Eyes' website discussing enhancements to patient care, she writes that providing accessible, high-quality videos for patients to view on the site and on iPads at the practice serves as a critical component to a patient's experience. "[The videos] make the best visual tools to aid our patients in understanding their condition, the surgical details, and what advanced vision correction options are available to them."

For a practice that offers an extensive range of eye care services, from LASIK laser vision correction and cataract surgery to corneal transplantation and dry eye treatment, Dr. Pizio says having a modern, comfortable facility staffed by a communicative team of doctors and assistants, in addition to comprehensive educational options for patients, are all part of giving patients the best possible treatment. "We strive to elevate our patients' experience to reflect the quality of our patient care."

A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.

Big Data engines are powering a lot of service businesses right now. Data is collected from users from wearable technologies, web behaviors, purchase behavior as well as several arbitrary data points we’d never think of. The demand for faster and bigger engines to crunch and serve up the data to services is growing exponentially. You see a LOT of correlation between “Cloud” and “Big Data” but on Big Data and “Hybrid,” where hybrid hosting is the sanest approach to the Big Data Infrastructure pro...

I wanted to gather all of my Internet of Things (IOT) blogs into a single blog (that I could later use with my University of San Francisco (USF) Big Data “MBA” course). However as I started to pull these blogs together, I realized that my IOT discussion lacked a vision; it lacked an end point towards which an organization could drive their IOT envisioning, proof of value, app dev, data engineering and data science efforts. And I think that the IOT end point is really quite simple…
