CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/25/14 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
The Chester Art Centre Association will receive funding of $2,000 for its annual festival through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program.
Gerald Keddy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
From August 8 to 16, 2014, the Chester Art Centre Association will present the 7th edition of the Chester Art Festival. This year's event, entitled "A Work in Progress," includes performances by local musicians, demonstrations by local artists and artisans, and children's activities. A one-day art exhibition on August 9 is designed to give about 30 local artists and artisans from Chester a chance to showcase their work to the public.
-- The Chester Art Centre was founded in April 2007 by artists and art lovers with a desire to bring art to the community. The Centre is located in the picturesque seaside village of Chester. -- The Centre offers a varied and experiential range of classes and workshops for children and adults in a classic Chester cottage, which features a main floor exhibition/classroom space and a backyard that is terrific for picnics. -- Chester is noted for sailing, stately homes, magnificent gardens, and a relaxed lifestyle. In the summertime, Chester is alive with yacht races, garden parties, and band concerts.
"Our Government is proud to invest in artistic and cultural events that help define the identity of our communities. Chester is an example of a community that flourishes thanks in part to its dedication to promoting art and culture."
-The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
"Chester is a great place to live, and our continued support to the Chester Art Festival demonstrates our commitment to help strengthen the local economy and enrich the quality of life of residents and visitors to the area."
-Gerald Keddy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's)
"This funding provides an important contribution to the Chester Art Festival as we continue to support local artists in our annual 10-day exhibition, create fun and challenging art experiences for children, and offer a venue for artists and an art fair. Canadian Heritage has been a significant resource to rural communities by enabling organizations such as the Chester Art Centre to continue to grow."
