The ‘No-Compromise Cloud’

Why hybrid infrastructure solves challenges the public cloud model can’t

The public cloud computing model is rapidly becoming the world's most prolific IT deployment architecture, yet it leaves many promises unfulfilled. While offering scale, flexibility, and potential cost savings, the public cloud often lacks the isolation, computing power, and control advantages of bare metal servers. Recent feedback suggests that people who adopted public cloud solutions for their elasticity and convenience are now lamenting their "simple" solution's complexity.

To deploy enterprise solutions with the public cloud, one must consider redundancies as a safety net for outages and other disasters, as well as more intricate network architecture for true interoperability.

 

A Better Way: Hybrid Infrastructure
A hybrid infrastructure platform addresses many of the flaws inherent in the public cloud model. Deployment models consider three infrastructure options:

  • Public cloud for economic, variable, and non-mission-critical functions;
  • Private cloud for solutions that require virtualization, as well as isolation, performance, and scale; and
  • Dedicated bare metal servers for resource-intensive workloads, such as database applications.

With the right combination of infrastructure, businesses can directly and completely addresses infrastructure challenges and needs.

Deploying complex hybrid infrastructures in-house requires an arsenal of resources, such as infrastructure and data architects, network specialists, database administrators, system administrators, etc. Many businesses either do not have these resources or cannot afford to remove personnel from critical business functions for the purpose of designing and deploying these systems.

For simple use cases, such as web hosting and non-mission-critical workloads, businesses may consider public cloud resources like Amazon Web Services. The public cloud is designed to solve these types of challenges quickly and cost effectively. But, as complexities increase, a managed hybrid infrastructure is often the best solution. Hybrid directly addresses individual infrastructure challenges without extraneous compute resources that are the result of an improper fit between the deployment model and the business requirements.

Infrastructure Foundation Customized to Address Key Performance Metrics
Each stakeholder in an organization may have slightly different needs. Developers want speed and agility. They need access to resources quickly, and a "pay for play" works best because it's fast and efficient. They also need a broad set of development tools and application components so they can focus on coding instead of infrastructure configuration.

Meanwhile, operations professionals want control, stability, security, and efficiency. Their job is to make the infrastructure as useful as possible, while also maintaining corporate compliance standards and isolation that exist in their internal data center.

Scalability when you need it without injecting risk. The demand for resources often exceeds the finite resources available in a bare metal only architecture. A hybrid cloud infrastructure provides a quick and cost-effective infrastructure alternative to address scale, without the risk of the public cloud.

By adding the private cloud elasticity, businesses can continue to conform to compliance regulations and security standards, while also creating a means to handle material changes in demand.

Maintain cost flexibility without sacrificing performance and security. By deploying a hybrid cloud infrastructure model, businesses can maintain "pay-as-you-go" flexibility along with the benefits of single tenant components to address risk, isolation, and performance.

Hybrid cloud infrastructure is a high performance, complete solution designed to effectively tackle business challenges. The right combination of infrastructure provides the flexibility and control businesses demand. Simplistic, cookie cutter solutions cannot support these needs efficiently. Businesses should insist on a model that provides the resources and specialized services designed specifically to address their needs: "The No-Compromise Cloud."
