VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/30/14 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
BMT Productions will be able to realize a special commemorative project that will honour Canada's serving men and women and mark their contributions to the World Wars thanks to an investment of $1,199,404 from the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, made this announcement today at an event in Vancouver. The funding comes from the Commemorate Canada component of the Celebration and Commemoration Program.
-- The project includes educational materials and kiosks that will travel across Canada. -- Documentary vignettes, a promotional book, videos and a website will be produced. -- There will also be the development of a CP National Railway Tour. -- Members of the bands of the Canadian Armed Forces will travel the country leading the national anthem at NHL hockey games.
"This unique, multi-faceted approach to commemoration will increase Canadians' knowledge and awareness of the importance of the Canadian Armed Forces and their rich, proud history of defending Canada at home and abroad. As we prepare to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017, commemorations like these will encourage Canadians to understand more about our history, especially about the First and Second World War, and reaffirm our pride in our achievements."
