MARINA DEL REY, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/30/14 -- Motivational author and speaker Shawn Anderson doesn't just talk about themes such as "go the extra mile" and "live the life you love"...he lives them. The six-time author and keynoter recently completed walking 550 miles from St. Jean, France, to Finisterre, Spain, on the famous Camino de Santiago trail.
Pushing himself is not a new concept for Anderson. In addition to hiking 20 miles a day for 27 straight days, he has biked the United States ocean-to-ocean twice, run a 100-mile race, and completed a 40-day around-the-world trip.
"I'm a big believer in ax sharpening," Anderson says. "Life has a way of dulling the potential of our best performances unless we keep ourselves sharp. The uncertainty of traveling across Spain with nothing more than a small backpack over your shoulder...and hiking as far as you can each day, definitely sharpens you."
Besides being a successful lifetime entrepreneur, Anderson is also the Founder of Extra Mile America and the creator of "Extra Mile Day"...a day recognizing the capacity we each have to create positive change when we go the extra mile. On November 1, 2013, 444 mayors and cities made the unique declaration and recognized those in their local communities who were going the extra mile in volunteerism and service. On November 1st this year, 500 cities are expected to participate in Extra Mile Day.
"Living a life that you love starts with knowing what that life actually looks like," Anderson, the author of the motivational story Amicus 101: A Story of the Pursuit of Purpose and Overcoming Life's Chaos, shares. "The quality, value, and adventure of each of our lives will always be determined by our own vision and a willingness to take action on that vision."
