SANTIAGO, Chile, July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- By signing in the Global Compact Chile, the winery confirms its commitment to this network created in 1999 and officially launched at the headquarters of the United Nations in July 2000. The Global Compact encourages leading companies to adopt ten universal principles relating to human rights, labor regulation, environment and anti-corruption. Currently, it is the largest global network in the world, with more than 10,000 members in over one hundred countries. In Chile, the Global Compact brings together more than 80 companies.
This initiative seeks to create a Global Agreement between the United Nations and global business, with the aim of safeguarding sustainable economic growth in the context of globalization, by promoting a set of universal values. The winery therefore undertakes the compromise of integrating the Global Compact values, expressed in 10 basic principles, into its corporate sustainability strategy. These principles enjoy universal consensus, as they originate from:
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- The Declaration of Principles of the International Labor Organization on Fundamental Rights at Work
- The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development
- The United Nations Convention against Corruption
The agreement was made between Eduardo Guilisasti, Concha y Toro CEO, and Margarita Ducci, Executive Director of the Global Compact in Chile, and through it the winery is committed to promoting the sustainability of its business based on universal values that generate social and economic benefits.
"For Vina Concha y Toro, joining this initiative is a fundamental part of its business strategy, based on sustainability throughout its entire production chain, and a way of generating value for society through a genuine commitment. We think it is a priority to move forward hand in hand with our key stakeholders, employees and the community, and create a greater national awareness of the importance of these values," said Eduardo Guilisasti.
