PORTLAND, Ore., July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Tour Association (NTA), the leading association for professional tour operators, is bringing its annual retreat, Contact, to Portland Aug. 7-9. The event, hosted by Travel Oregon and Travel Portland, will attract more than 100 tour operators, giving Oregon the opportunity to shine with professionals who sell travel experiences.
"By hosting a conference with tour operators who package travel, Portland and Oregon are opening their doors to a steady flow of new visitors for years to come," said Catherine Prather, NTA interim president. "Our hosts have arranged nine sightseeing tours along with more comprehensive tours before and after Contact. This will not only showcase the state's amazing culinary and outdoor diversity, but it will also give the tour operators a chance to experience and build on the Oregon vacation packages they are currently offering."
Attendees will get a taste of Oregon with a variety of outdoor and culinary experiences, including a farm-to fork dinner at Ponzi Vineyards featuring the state's outstanding agricultural bounty. In Portland, they will "Indulge" at The Jupiter Hotel, where they will be treated to a perfectly-curated Portland experience replete with a Farmer's Market, dishes from renowned local chefs and Food Carts, as well as sips of artisanal beers, craft spirits and award-winning wines.
"Inspiration, economic impact and job creation is what bringing NTA's Contact to Oregon is all about," said Todd Davidson, CEO. "At Travel Oregon, we sell inspiration. We inspire visitors to come to Oregon to experience our iconic natural beauty and get a taste of our exceptional culinary scene. The members of NTA can take this a step further and sell vacation packages to travelers motivated to visit Oregon, further enhancing the state's tourism industry that generates $9.6 billion in economic impact and directly supports nearly 94,000 jobs for Oregonians."
To wrap things up in true Oregon style, attendees and members of the state's tourism industry will give back to this place we call home by participating in a Tourism Cares Clean-Up Event at Audrey McCall Beach on Sunday, Aug. 10. Volunteers will remove debris at beach sites along the Willamette River to further enhance the shoreline and provide better access to the river for recreational use. The event is produced by the Human Access Project with proceeds going to the Oregon Travel Philanthropy Fund. Locals and visitors are welcome to register to take part in the Tourism Cares Clean-Up Event, as well.
The Oregon Tourism Commission, dba Travel Oregon, works to enhance visitors' experience by providing information, resources and trip planning tools that inspire travel and consistently convey the exceptional quality of Oregon. The commission aims to improve Oregonians' quality of life by strengthening economic impacts of the state's $9.6 billion tourism industry that employs nearly 94,000 Oregonians. www.TravelOregon.com
