TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/03/14 -- The union that represents 11,500 professional and supervisory employees who work directly for the Ontario government has reached a tentative deal with the government.
After six months of negotiations, the AMAPCEO Board of Directors, based on the recommendation of the Bargaining Team, is unanimously recommending a tentative agreement to its membership.
AMAPCEO President Gary Gannage said "our goal was to ensure that our current rights were retained and that the hard work and professionalism of our members are reflected in our working terms and conditions." Gannage also noted that "this deal was reached as a result of the hard work and innovation of the Bargaining Team, which was strengthened by the support of our activists and our mobilized membership. AMAPCEO looks forward to reestablishing a more collaborative approach to labour relations in the Ontario Public Service".
Bargaining Team Chair Dianne Colville said "it was the tremendous and unprecedented efforts of our membership that enabled the Bargaining Team to stand its ground against the Employer's drastic proposals". Colville added, "This tentative agreement would not have been possible without our united and engaged membership."
