The Hackaday Prize Competition Extends Its Deadline

SupplyFrame, a company dedicated to helping people build better hardware products faster, is extending the submission deadline for The Hackaday Prize, a challenge to the global hardware community to change their world by creating open connected devices. The deadline has been moved from August 4, 2014 to August 20, 2014.

The Hackaday team has been amazed at the quality of submissions to the Hackaday Prize competition thus far. From solar-powered surf boards to robotic arms, the entries have been equal parts diverse and innovative.

“We’ve been receiving a wide range of projects that can be called serious, innovative, playful, and awe-inspiring,” said Mike Szczys, the managing editor of Hackaday.com, adding, “So far the hackers working on these projects have not disappointed us.”

The core concepts of The Hackaday Prize are electronics that are “connected devices” and exhibit Open Design.

Unsurprisingly, these feats of ingenuity have inspired hackers from around the world to petition for more time to compete. As a result, Hackaday has amended competition rules to those below:

Contestants must now complete all requirements for the “Community Vote (Stage 1)” and “Quarterfinals (Stage 2)” by 11:50 P.D.T. on August 20, 2014 (rather than August 4, 2014).

Furthermore, contestants are no longer required to make one video for the Community Vote stage and another video for the Quarterfinals stage. Instead, only one video – the video described under the “Quarterfinals (Stage 2)” subsection of the Official Rules – is required by the 11:50 P.D.T., August 20, 2014, Quarterfinals deadline. Additionally, build instructions are no longer required at the Quarterfinals stage.

These changes help eliminate barriers for those willing to compete and have been amended in the Official Rules. Please view them here.

Good luck!
