Sony Announces the Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 and DSC-W810 Digital Cameras

Photography News: Sony's Latest Point-and-Shoot Cameras Update and Expand the Cyber-shot Lineup

Each camera adds a new lens and shooting modes to their respective lineup, greatly benefitting those in the market for a compact digital camera. The WX-series welcomes the DSC-WX220, which brings a 10x optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-250mm to fill a spot underneath the top DSC-WX350. It also updates this area of the lineup with the latest BIONZ X image processor for dramatically improved shooting speeds and video recording. Offsetting the enhanced processing performance, the WX220 also incorporates an 18.2MP 1/2.3" Exmor R CMOS Sensor, along with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, for high-resolution low light imagery with maintained sharpness. Additionally, the DSC-WX220 features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC for pairing to a smartphone or tablet for remote camera control and image transferring. Video recording is also available on this model in full HD 1080p at 60 fps and continuous still shooting is possible at a rapid rate of 10 fps.

With the Cyber-shot DSC-W810 comes a user-friendly compact camera with a 20.1MP 1/2.3" Super HAD CCD sensor and a 6x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 26-156mm in 35mm format. This camera comes with a variety of features common to other W-series cameras, including a Party mode for optimizing and balancing flash and exposure settings for color-neutral results in a variety of shooting conditions.

HD video recording in 720p at 30 fps is possible and the camera features SteadyShot Image Stabilization with Active Mode for minimizing the appearance of camera shake. Other modes include an intuitive Easy Mode, Sweep Panorama, and Smile Shutter technology that automatically takes an image when it detects a subject is smiling.

The Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 is available in Black or Gold, while the Cyber-shot DSC-W810 is available in Black.
