Mangstor Accelerates Enterprise NVMe Storage Devices with ST-MRAM From Everspin

Everspin Technologies, Inc, the world's leading developer and manufacturer of MRAM worldwide, and Mangstor, Inc, a leading supplier of high performance Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) Solid State Storage Solutions, today disclosed how the EMD3D064M ST-MRAM from Everspin offers compelling benefits in Mangstor’s recently introduced MX6000 family of High Performance NVMe Intelligent Storage Devices designed to accelerate enterprise and cloud workloads.

Designed for storage and memory markets, Everspin’s EMD3D064M 64Mb DDR3 ST-MRAM combines the speed and endurance of DRAM with the non-volatility of Flash. It is the world’s first commercially-available Spin Torque MRAM and the first product in Everspin’s roadmap of ST-MRAM solutions that meets tomorrow's storage system requirements. ST-MRAM from Everspin gives designers of high performance storage systems the ability to achieve ultra low latency, increase reliability with high cycling endurance, and protect data in the event of power loss.

“Everspin’s ST-MRAM allows Mangstor to buffer data writes to NAND Flash, significantly reducing write data latency while protecting against unexpected power loss,” said Paul Prince, CTO of Mangstor. “The ST-MRAM provides high performance caching of critical data during operation resulting in faster device start times. Everspin’s ST-MRAM also provides increased system reliability when recovering from unplanned shutdowns during power failures because ST-MRAM eliminates the need for super capacitors.”

“With today’s announcement, Mangstor is shaking up the traditional storage markets through new levels of data efficiency, integrity, and performance,” said Phill LoPresti, President and CEO of Everspin Technologies, Inc. “We are excited to launch production of ST-MRAM for Mangstor’s high performance PCI-Express NVMe intelligent Storage Solutions based on enterprise MLC NAND Flash and ST-MRAM Technology.”

Mangstor will demonstrate the MX6000 family of Intelligent Storage Devices utilizing the Everspin EMD3D064M ST-MRAM at the Flash Memory Summit, August 5-7, 2014, in Santa Clara, California.

Skeuomorphism usually means retaining existing design cues in something new that doesn’t actually need them. However, the concept of skeuomorphism can be thought of as relating more broadly to applying existing patterns to new technologies that, in fact, cry out for new approaches. In his session at DevOps Summit, Gordon Haff, Senior Cloud Strategy Marketing and Evangelism Manager at Red Hat, discussed why containers should be paired with new architectural practices such as microservices rathe...

Whether you like it or not, DevOps is on track for a remarkable alliance with security. The SEC didn’t approve the merger. And your boss hasn’t heard anything about it. Yet, this unruly triumvirate will soon dominate and deliver DevSecOps faster, cheaper, better, and on an unprecedented scale. It’s been proven time and time again that in tech, diversity drives greater innovation, better team productivity and greater profits and market share. So what can we do in our DevOps teams to embrace diversity and help transform the culture of development and operations into a true “DevOps” team? WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.

Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome,” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
Any Ops team trying to support a company in today’s cloud-connected world knows that a new way of thinking is required – one just as dramatic than the shift from Ops to DevOps.
