PHOENIX, Aug. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Phoenix, AZ. August 5, 2014 – Universal Learning Centre (www.universallearningcentre.org), a not-for-profit organization that builds and sustains library learning centers in developing nations, invites the community to attend the organization's upcoming Fundraiser Gala, "Montreal -- Strengthening Haiti through Education," on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

The Montreal Gala will celebrate Universal Learning Centre's partnership with the Parliament Foundation of Quebec -- Culture Share.  Money raised from this event will help continue the work at the organization's current locations and support the strategic plan for additional learning centers.

Believing everyone deserves an education, Universal Learning Centre (ULC) builds and sustains learning centers in developing nations.  The organization opened its first site December 2009 in Haiti, one month prior to the devastating earthquake.  ULC now operates three centers in Haiti, all of which are the first of their kind in their communities.

"The province of Quebec has provided over 25,000 books to our three successful learning centers in Haiti," said Paul D. Hopkins, chair of the board of directors, Universal Learning Centre.  "These learning centers are the first for the Haitian towns of Pilate, Ouanaminthe and Ferrier.

"I have personally traveled to Haiti and witnessed what these centers are providing for their communities," continued Hopkins.  "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share with the Montreal Gala attendees what Quebec's donations and support have accomplished."

ULC Founder Jacques Jean will also attend this event.  Born in Haiti, Jacque Jean experienced limited advances in education, healthcare and poverty alleviation.  For example, the country's lack of infrastructural development makes it difficult for children born today to become digitally connected with the world.  ULC members believe education is a powerful tool that can lift marginalized adults and children out of poverty.

The event will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Montreal Centre-Ville located at 380 Rene Levesque West Boulevard, Montreal (Qc) H2Z 0A6.  A cocktail reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner, presentations and entertainment at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased for this event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/universal-learning-centre-gala-montreal-2014-tickets-11388941631.  Ticket prices for individuals are $100.00 and tables of eight are $720.00.

Those unable to attend the Montreal Gala can donate or learn more about Universal Learning Centre by visiting http://www.universallearningcentre.org or calling toll free 888-418-1181 or local 602-535-2363.

About Universal Learning Centre:

Universal Learning Centre (ULC) was founded in 2005 by Jacques M. Jean, his wife, Dana, and a small but passionate board of directors.  A Haitian native, Mr. Jean stepped into a library for the first time in his life at age 18 and had a transformational experience.  From that point on, his personal mission, and later that of the organization, became providing similar educational resources and learning opportunities to people in developing nations.  The organization currently has sites in Pilate, Ferrier and Ouanaminthe, Haiti and in support of its strategic plan, the board, staff and volunteers are working on plans for sites in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

ULC is a section 501(c)(3) organization. For more information on how you can help, visit http://www.universallearningcentre.org/.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? Certainly the fog layer of IoT requires special insights about data ontology, security and transactional integrity. But the developmental challenges are the same: People, Process and Platform. Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.
The next XaaS is CICDaaS. Why? Because CICD saves developers a huge amount of time. CD is an especially great option for projects that require multiple and frequent contributions to be integrated. But… securing CICD best practices is an emerging, essential, yet little understood practice for DevOps teams and their Cloud Service Providers. The only way to get CICD to work in a highly secure environment takes collaboration, patience and persistence. Building CICD in the cloud requires rigorous ar...

To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their operations with a data-first application development approach. In his session at @BigDataExpo, Jack Norris, Senior Vice President, Data and Applications at MapR Technologies, reviewed best practices to ...
Widespread fragmentation is stalling the growth of the IIoT and making it difficult for partners to work together. Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Now that design CAD teams are geographically distributed, centralizing their work is key. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
