NEW YORK, Aug. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- High Water Women's 10th annual Backpack Drive will bring together 350 financial services industry volunteers to assemble a record 12,300 backpacks for tri-state area children in need. This year's drive takes place August 8th through 14th at the New York headquarters of Credit Suisse and includes volunteers from Credit Suisse, Barclays, UBS, Deutsche Bank, BNY Mellon, Neuberger Berman, JP Morgan, Franklin Templeton, First Republic, Reed Smith, Pershing Square, Crowe Horwath, and Grosvenor Capital Management.
The drive is the culmination of a fundraising effort that started in April and raised more $220,000, providing funding to assemble more backpacks this year than ever before.
Generous donations from the attendees of this year's Institutional Investor's annual awards dinners where the Backpack Drive was the featured charity (America's Most Honored Companies, US Investment Management Awards, Mutual Fund Industry Awards, and Hedge Fund Industry Awards) March thru June, were particularly important to the Drive's success.
Janice Abert, HWW Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Backpack Drive Fundraising said, "Thanks to some very generous donations and the expanded participation of many individuals and corporate groups, we've been able to meet our goal. Everyone involved, donors and volunteers should know that because of your support 12,300 children in need will now be able to start school ready to learn."
More than twenty participating nonprofits and schools placed orders for the packs, with kindergarten, elementary and middle/high schools all receiving different supplies.
Agencies participating in this year's drive include: Child Center of New York, Children's Storefront, DreamYard, Good Shepherd Services, Inwood House, Iris House, Jubilee Center, Partnership with Children, Inpirica, The After School Corporation, TEAK Fellowship, Jewish Childcare, Women in Need, Young Women's Leadership Network, Manhattan Christian Academy, Emmanuel Worship Center, Children's Learning Center, Friends of the Children, Public Prep, GEMS, Hour Children, Women's Prison Association, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Pivot House, Waterside School, and Go Project.
