LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 08/06/14 -- Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced a partnership with Intelligent Stadium Solutions, a specialist developer of fan engagement applications, to enable venue and stadium operators a unique way of delivering digital stadium experiences with highly customisable branded mobile applications.
The joint offering from Xirrus and Intelligent Stadium Solutions provides venues and stadiums with a robust and scalable wireless infrastructure to meet the growing demands of fans. With the customisable iStadium App platform, venues can engage with thousands of fans and visitors in real-time, while also generating clear return on investment through interactive content such as in-stadium betting, merchandise offers, concession incentives, ticket promotions and sponsor advertising.
Fully customisable and branded to the requirements of the venue or sports club, the app also delivers 'fanalytics' to the venue operator, providing unique insights into fan behaviour and the complete user experience. Benefits to fans include access to in-play statistics and video highlights, social media integration, commentary for the hearing and visually impaired and the ability to report stadium incidents in a safe way.
With the ability to track specific outputs via the iStadium App, such as number of downloads of specific content, number of bets placed or number of merchandise offers purchased, stadiums are able to demonstrate a tangible return on investment and introduce new monetisation activities for the venue and its sponsorship partners.
Pete Renson, managing director of Intelligent Stadium Solutions, says: "Today's sports fans are crying out for more interactive and engaging content to enhance their event experience. By partnering with Xirrus we're now able to deliver a wealth of rich content to improve the fan experience, such as in-play betting, live team stats, merchandise offers and accessibility benefits such as commentary for the visually impaired. This not only improves the spectator experience, but encourages more fans to go to the stadium to get access to unique content they would otherwise not have access to.
"Xirrus is the only vendor that delivers the high-density wireless that is demanded by large stadium environments to get the required level of speed and bandwidth," added Renson. "Xirrus also provides a high degree of control and management over the Wi-Fi that ensures enough throughput to deliver a high-quality user experience within the application."
Shane Buckley, CEO at Xirrus, said: "Sport is driving unprecedented growth in second screen experiences and social interaction, with recent Nielson research revealing that sports events comprised 12 of the top 20 most-tweeted-about TV broadcasts in the U.S. in 2013(1), with 492 million tweets in total. As a result, sports stadiums are increasingly looking to provide their fans with the ability to access and share new content, while also demanding an effective way to track a return on their Wi-Fi investment.
"The addition of Intelligent Stadium Solutions to the Xirrus portfolio enables us to provide any sports venue with a ready-made and easily customisable application platform to deliver engaging and interactive content to their fans, while introducing additional revenue streams."
The partnership between Xirrus and iStadium stemmed from early wins in the stadium and sports venues space. However, the platform's transferability across sectors was quickly recognised and both companies are working together in adapting the technology for use across other high density environments where there is strong demand for delivering content to enrich the user experience.

Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them all? Of course not.

Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels.
With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.

Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –...

All clouds are not equal. To succeed in a DevOps context, organizations should plan to develop/deploy apps across a choice of on-premise and public clouds simultaneously depending on the business needs. This is where the concept of the Lean Cloud comes in - resting on the idea that you often need to relocate your app modules over their life cycles for both innovation and operational efficiency in the cloud.
