The Nation's Top Safety Expert's Advice for Parents

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Summer fun at the amusement park can be quickly interrupted when a child goes missing. How can parents teach their kids to be safe in these situations?

With children spending more time outside their homes and schools, there is greater chance they will face unsafe situations and encounter dangerous individuals.  Kids In The House expert Gavin de Becker advises parents to teach their kids important safety tips, especially during these summer months.

Mr. de Becker says the number one fear of parents is that their children will be kidnapped. However, he also explains important safety precautions to avoid this tragic predicament.

Mr. de Becker's most important safety tip is to teach kids that women are the safest strangers to approach when they are in a dangerous situation.

"A lot of people say to choose a policeman," de Becker says. "However, they fail to recognize that when you're down at the height of a five year old you can't tell who's a policeman anyway."

Women are more likely to help and are much less likely to be a sexual predator, says de Becker.  While most parents teach their kids to find the security guards, those are surprisingly the least-screened individuals employed by the company, making them an extremely unsafe choice.

Parents should learn to listen to their intuition and should teach their children to do the same. The power of intuition is a responsibility given to us by nature, de Becker claims.

"Follow your intuition and voice your feelings," de Becker urges. "If we wait too long, the predicament is no longer proof, and you are just reporting history."
