South Carolina Virtual Charter School Marks Seventh Year Providing Online Education

Statewide online program offers individualized learning approach for South Carolina students

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- South Carolina Virtual Charter School, a full-time, tuition-free online public school for students residing across the state, will begin the 2014-2015 academic year on August 18, 2014. The program marks the start of its 7th year, after graduating its largest class in school history in June 2014. SCVCS uses the award-winning K¹² curriculum to offer students in grades K-12 an exceptional learning experience. With support from state-certified teachers and an active school community, SCVCS offers an individualized learning approach to meet the needs of every student.

Students who enroll at SCVCS follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials – books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. SCVCS teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.  Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the opportunity to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.

SCVCS provides core courses in Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Music and Art, while the high school program offers more than 90 core, elective, and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses. Students can also choose to participate in a variety of extracurricular groups and clubs.
