EnterpriseDB Makes Agile NoSQL Development Easy With New Postgres AWS Deployment

Free, Quick-Start Development Environment Pre-Configures Postgres With Developer Tools Needed for Building Web 2.0 Applications

The new development environment, Postgres Extended Datatype Developer Kit (PGXDK), makes it easier for developers of any skill level to use Postgres for the kinds of applications that until recently required a specialized NoSQL-only solution. Postgres has expanded its capabilities for handling document databases, for example, with advanced support for JSON and JSONB. On key workloads, Postgres has been proven to outperform the most popular NoSQL-only solution.

The NoSQL-optimized environment comes with the core components that developers need to work with Postgres already pre-integrated and pre-configured. Plus, it features a sample application with code examples to help developers get started. The free instances on Amazon's AWS position developers to tap the powers of relational technology to build applications in an iterative, agile development framework.

The new toolkit will be unveiled during a Sept. 10 webinar, NoSQL Applications for the Enterprise -- Do More with Postgres.

Postgres Solves NoSQL-Only Challenges

NoSQL-only solutions pose a host of challenges, complexities and even serious risks to the enterprise. "By 2017, 50% of data stored in NoSQL DBMSs will be damaging to the business due to a lack of applied information governance policies and programs," according to Gartner.*

The Developer Toolkit

Postgres Extended Datatype Developer Kit integrates and configures multiple developer tools needed for building applications with JSON/JSON B and HStore in Postgres. The toolkit includes PostgreSQL 9.4 beta, a web server and implementations of Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and Python. In the fall, EDB will release a version with PL/V8 providing an integrated JavaScript language.
