COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Minimally Invasive Devices Inc. (MID), a Columbus, Ohio medical device company, announced today that Mitsubishi Corporation has formally agreed to exclusively distribute MID's FloShield laparoscopic and robotic visualization system in Japan. MID anticipates that FloShield will be approved for sale in Japan in the second half of 2015.
Mitsubishi Corporation is also the exclusive distributor for Karl Storz GMBH & Co. (endoscopic instruments and devices) in Japan. FloShield will allow the companies' surgeon customers to maintain a clear and consistent view during laparoscopic surgery, eliminating loss of vision and surgical interruptions.
FloShield is the first laparoscopic device that offers "Active Lens Protection", a moving curtain of gas over the lens that prevents condensation, fluids and blood products from settling on the optics during surgery, thereby maintaining a clear surgical view for the operating team.
"The partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation will broaden our footprint globally and give more surgeons our technology that prevents loss of vision during procedures," stated Dr. Wayne Poll, CEO of MID. "The next transformation in surgical video technology is not more pixels, but a solution that actually prevents loss of vision from even occurring."
Stephen Forden, the VP of marketing for MID stated: "Given the fact that obstructed vision reduces effectiveness and slows surgeries, the importance of clear, consistent, and uninterrupted vision during surgery is obvious. FloShield prevents loss of vision, while laparoscopes without FloShield technology frequently become soiled and require interruption for manual cleaning. A surgical video system is only as good as the clarity of the optics."
